National History Day Projects

National History Day Projects
7:05 – 7:50
Since the first week of September, our young historians have been involved in the challenging and exciting
process of research based on National History Day and the theme of “Leadership and Legacy in History”. They
decided to work as an individual or in a group, selected a topic of interest, amassed a collection of primary and
secondary resources, conducted their research, developed a thesis, planned a project to present their findings,
and created an original product. WOW!
As you visit with our historians and view their work, you may want to ask them a few questions about their
research. Here are a couple of possibilities:
¶ Why did you select your topic?
¶ What was your best primary resource, and why?
¶ What was your best secondary resource, and why?
¶ What challenges did you face in the process?
¶ Besides the historical content, what is the most important thing you learned in this process?
The projects are divided into five categories and spread across the second floor of the Middle School. Please use
the following list as a guide to find your student’s project, and also look for a project or two that has a topic of
interest to you. Up to five projects from each individual category and group category will be selected after this
evening to compete in the regional NHD competition at UWM on March 7st. Those selections will be published by
very soon – hopefully tomorrow! Check americanhistoryrules.com and future editions of the Friday Footnotes for
updates on the historical progress of the Class of 2019!
