King and Queen Eligibility and Requirements
One of Homecoming’s most popular traditions is the crowning of the royal couple, and this year
will be no exception! A maximum of ten King and Queen Candidates will be chosen by
interviews. The top five King and the top five Queen Candidates will comprise the Homecoming
Court. The candidates will be introduced at various events during Homecoming Week, including
Coronation which will be during the Men’s Soccer Game on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The
2011 SIUE Homecoming King and Queen will be determined by a campus-wide election.
Eligibility
The criteria for Homecoming King and Queen are as follows:
1. All candidates must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and must be
currently enrolled at SIUE.
2. All applicants must have attained a junior, senior, or graduate student standing.
3. Each candidate must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of University and/or
community service, which has been or can be documented.
4. Each applicant must submit a typed statement of 100 words or less indicating how and why
he/she will best represent the University as Homecoming King/Queen. This statement will
appear at the voting sites and may be printed in the Alestle.
5. A letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member of Southern Illinois University
Edwardsville is welcomed, but not required.
6. Any student who meets the above requirements is eligible to apply and be interviewed for the
position, with exception to those serving on the selection committee.
7. Applications and all supporting documents must be submitted to the Kimmel Leadership
Center by Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 4:00PM. THE SELECTION
COMMITTEE WILL NOT CONSIDER INCOMPLETE OR LATE APPLICATIONS.
8. All rules and regulations will be followed. If any candidate does not follow the guidelines,
he or she will be disqualified.
Interviews
The Interview process is as followed:
1. The Homecoming King and Queen interviews will be conducted on Monday, September
26, 2011 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm in the Student Success Center. Candidates not in
attendance will be removed from the selection process.
2. A maximum of ten (5) King and (5) Queen Candidates will be chosen for the ballot.
3. All candidates must be available between 1:00pm - 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September
28 for their official photograph at Photo Services in Rendelman Hall Rm: 2103.
Campaign Guidelines
The Campaign Guidelines are as followed:
1. There will be no advertisements within 10 feet of the voting booth, which will be located in
the North Entrance of the Morris University Center on Monday, October 3, 2011 and
Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
2. The Kimmel Leadership Center and the Homecoming Committee do not condone or
encourage candidates to skip classes to campaign.
3. The Homecoming Planning Committee must approve fliers, banners, etc., for content. The
Homecoming Planning Committee will retain for official files one copy of each candidate’s
flier.
4. All fliers and posters must be approved for posting by the Kimmel Leadership Center.
Maximum allowable poster size is 14x22 inches.
5. Candidates must supply their own materials to make fliers, poster, handbills, banners, etc.
6. It is an expectation that candidates will attend the following events:
SIUE Men’s Soccer Game, Saturday, October 8th, 7:00pm - Korte Stadium
Announcement of the King and Queen winners
Voting
Voting process is as followed:
1. Campus-wide voting for Homecoming 2011 will be on October 3, 2011 and October 4,
2011.
2. Voting will take place online via Blackboard starting at 12:00am on Monday, October 3rd
and ending at 11:55pm on Tuesday, October 4th.
3. There will be a laptop available at the Morris University Center’s North Entrance from
10:00am - 4:00pm on Monday, October 3rd and Tuesday, October 4th for students to use
to vote.
4. All current SIUE undergraduate and graduate students will be eligible to vote.
NO WRITE-IN CANDIDATES WILL BE ACCEPTED
The 2011 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at the SIUE Men’s Soccer Game on
Saturday, October 8.
Release of Information Authorization:
Each student applicant must sign this release of Information Authorization. The criteria listed on
this application represent the minimum qualifications necessary for students at the time of the
application, as well as the time of appointment to these positions. The applicant gives permission
to have information on each item released by the Homecoming Committee.
I have read the above information, understand it, and with this signature I hereby give permission
for the Homecoming Committee to obtain information from the University regarding each of the
criteria as stated on the application. I have provided my Student ID to help facilitate this process.

Statement of Understanding:
I certify that all statements and information provided on this application are complete and true to
the best of my knowledge. I realize that falsified information can be sufficient cause for rejection
or dismissal from the Homecoming Court. If selected for the 2011 Homecoming Court, I release
to the Homecoming Committee the right to use my name, picture, and information included in
this application for publications, reports, and press releases.

Statement of Commitment:
As the host and hostess of SIUE, the King and Queen may be asked to serve at honor dinners,
athletics award nights and other similar functions to assist in presentations representing the
University.
Specifically, the King and Queen are expected to:
1. Keep an updated address and telephone number with the Kimmel Leadership Center.
2. Assist in recruitment events for the University.
3. Serve on next year’s King and Queen Selection Committee (if available).
4. Serve on next year’s Homecoming Planning Committee (if available).
5. Assist with sporting events as specified by Intercollegiate Athletics.
6. Assist with university events upon request and availability of schedule.
