CENTER POINT
By Roxie Hill
Several attended the Murdock reunion at Buck’s Pocket
Sunday. Also several attended
the Fricks reunion at Pleasant
Hill near Fyffe Sunday.
Marion Little, a former resident of this community and
now of the Collinsville Nursing Home, had to have his foot
taken off. He’s a diabetic. He
was in Marshall South hospital.
Charles and Tiny Pruett have
been visiting him in the hospital. He is Tiny’s brother.
Charles Pruett hasn’t been
feeling well lately. He passed
out twice the week before last
and had to go to the emergency room. They have done a lot
of tests, but they haven’t found
what is causing it.
We had visitors at Center
Point Church Sunday. They
were John and Doly Ingram of
Grove Oak. They are our pastor
Bobby Penndergrass’s mother
and step-father.
I want to say a late happy
birthday to my cousin Theron
Pruett of Piney Grove. He was
84 years old on Sept. 20. He is a
former resident of this community.
Keith and Kay Swisher went
to Cullman to watch their
grandson Jones Kuner play in a
fall travel baseball tournament.
He pitched in one of the games.
They also attended the wedding
of cousin Justin Young to Desirae Austin at Lake Guntersville
State Park.
Keith & Kay have been to 3
funerals lately. One was William Bell in Picken County,
Ala., near Tuscaloosa. Their
aunts Cora Bevill and Hazel
Jones went with them. William
was the husband of their first
cousin Beth (Caston) Bell.
Keith was a pallbearer for
Mary Roden of Claysville.
They attended church with her
in Guntersville for many years.
They also attended the funeral of Harriet Wood. She was a
teacher at Carlisle Park when
Keith was the principal there.
She also taught all 3 of their
children.
Jeff Swisher & Staci Lee of
Nashville were visitors of the
Swishers one weekend. They
came for a cookout & home
baked bread. The Swishers have
also been visiting Bill & Doris
Bevill of Five Points. He has
been doing better recently.
Kaye Swisher, Cora Bevill
& Mattie Brown went to the
Harris Funeral Home at Geraldine to visit with the family of
Francie (Leslie) Kuykendall of
Langston Monday night.
Also celebrating birthdays
with Wynell Godwin Sept. 13
were Luke & Della Turner,
the twins of Mahala & Norman Turner and Doug & Liz
Godwin’s grandchildren. They
turned 3 the same day Wynell was 91. Kay Swisher made
Wynell an apple pie with candles for his birthday.
Kay & Keith Swisher went to
the fair at Boaz and they met up
with Doug Godwin and Mahala Turner. They had the twins
Luke & Della Rose at the fair.

THE BLESSING OF VOLUNTEERS. Blessings in a Backpack had a big group of volunteers
to pack food last week, including Guntersville Mayor Leigh Dollar and Grant Mayor Larry
Walker. The U.S. Conference of Mayors declared September 18 as “Blessings in a Backpack
Day.” About 1,000 Blessings bags were packed with food for local children to take home over
the weekend. $80 feeds a child for one school year. In Guntersville, food is packed each Thursday night at 5:45 at the Guntersville Church of Christ, and organizers say that volunteers are
always welcome.
