DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Welcome to Boston Children’s T heatre's production of Cabaret.
When I first began working on this material, it became obvious to me that the
intolerances that existed in the world of 1930’s Berlin are still very much alive today.
Collaborating with the students, conversing with them and exploring topics such as race
and creed, war and freedom, and having the opportunity to bring these character to life,
has been an incredible journey. Working with and witnessing the way the students
support and champion one another has been an inspiration. It further proves to me that
we must all practice acceptance, love, and as the MC says, learn to truly “live and let
live” in the best sense of the phrase. It is our duty in this increasingly volatile global
climate.
Over the past few weeks, the creative team, cast and I have dissected the past and
the present through the evocative script and score of Cabaret. It’s been a pleasure to
witness the students flourish and soar throughout the process. These creative,
supportive, loving kids are indeed our future, and for this, I am grateful.
And now….on with the show!
