What a great season in the church to prepare ourselves for the dying and rising of Christ in the sacrifice he made for all of us. During Lent, many people try to do something to prepare themselves spiritually for Easter. It seems the most common thing a person does is to make a sacrifice of some kind; the hardest for me is always the sacrifice of time. This sacrifice brings to mind all the things parents do to volunteer for our school. Your sacrifice of time is especially appreciated!! There are so many ways parents are involved in the school and we would not have all the many blessings we enjoy without your support…..the SFO Officers leading the parent group, Craft Fair, Beginning Bash, Rake-a-Difference, Wonderful Wednesday, Halloween Party,Technology Raffle, driving for field trips, food at conferences, room parents……and those are just a few examples! Not only does this volunteering add to the school happenings, but it also adds life to the school. Parents get to know each other and the staff and build longtime friendships as their children go through the school system. I am grateful for all you do! One thing we need to do is to take a look at all we do in order to determine the greatest need for volunteers. If you would like to participate in reviewing the school volunteer needs please attend the SFO Volunteer Meeting on March 8th at 6:30 in the art room. All parents are invited. May your blessings during Lent be many. This year our school project for Lent will be collecting money for our Adoration Sisters’ future Monastery building which will be located near our Cathedral. One suggestion is to have students donate money they earn doing small jobs around the house or for grandparents/neighbors. Another possibility is to donate money they saved by giving something up. Theodor Seuss Geisel or as he is also known...Dr. Seuss was born March 2nd, 1904 and passed away September, 24th 1991 when he was 87 years old. He has sold over 600 million copies of his books which have been translated into 20 languages. We don't have 600 million of his books in our library, but we have A LOT! Remind your kids to check out a Dr. Seuss book and read it together! Katie McInerney ~ The Librarian A huge thank you to everyone who helped count money for the Catholic United Financial technology raffle! A special thanks to Chris Hammer for coordinating the event! So far we have collected approximately $9,580. Thanks also to everyone who generously bought tickets. Our school receives 100% profit from this fundraiser! Volunteer Needs Meeting - March 8th at 6:30pm All parents interested in reviewing the volunteer needs in our school are invited to a meeting on March 8th at 6:30pm. We will meet in the art room. We have many opportunities for volunteers in our school but don't seem to have enough volunteers to fill all those needs. Currently, we ask for 278 volunteers a year (not in hours, but in people). Therefore, we need to take a good look at the list to determine what fundraisers or fun-raisers will be scaled back so we aren't asking so much of our parents. Please plan to attend if you would like to provide input into the decisions made. Forgiveness is the SFCS March Virtue of the month - accepting and understanding when others make mistakes. It's not always easy to forgive someone who has hurt you. God forgives our sins and doesn't keep bringing up our past sins and mistakes. I always say that I forgive but don’t forget. I keep bringing up past offenses when I’m upset with someone. That is not true forgiveness. I need to let it go and follow Christ's example. St. Patrick is the saint of the month. He was a humble, pious man who trusted God and forgave others, even the pirates who kidnapped him when he was 14. There is much more to St Patrick than shamrocks! Lent is the perfect time to focus on forgiving those who have harmed or bothered you. Nothing frees our spirits like forgiving or being forgiven. It’s the best feeling in the world. When teaching proper apologies, I encourage students to ask, “Do you forgive me?” I compare it to the freedom and love we feel after the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We are called to forgive as Jesus forgives. Remembering that Jesus totally forgives our sins might make it easier to forgive others. And don’t forget to forgive yourself. That is one of my greatest challenges because I beat myself up for years after I done something wrong. I have to remind myself that God has forgiven me. Let's ask for God to open our hearts so that we, too, can forgive. We’ll be happier and who doesn’t like that? Happy almost Spring! Thank you to all who donated hats, scarves and mittens to our “Warming our Faith Community” project which we collected during Catholic Schools Week. We collected 8 pairs of mittens, 70 pairs of gloves, 10 scarves, 1 coat, and 106 hats. Your generosity was greatly appreciated by the Bishop Dudley House! The St. Lambert Praise Singers will be singing the National Anthem at a Sioux Falls Stampede game at the Sanford Premier Center on Friday, March 10, 7:00PM. ALL St. Lambert students PK-6 are offered a FREE ticket to this game! (You must use the attached order form to order your child a free ticket.) One third of all other ticket sales purchased through the St. Lambert Stampede Night order form will go directly back to St. Lambert School!
