GRADE SUMMER READING LIST 20162017 ST TH
Welcome to the summer reading program. The purpose of summer reading is twofold. First, by reading throughout the summer months, students have an opportunity to maintain and sharpen their reading and thinking skills. Second, we want our students to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. Each book on this list has been carefully selected to stimulate thinking and engage the imagination. One of the best things you can do as a parent is to model a love of reading. Also, don’t forget to read
to
your child, as this is a wonderful way to foster a family interest in reading and tackle work too difficult for a child to read alone.

Whether it’s on a comfy couch or in a hammock beneath some shade trees, set apart a special reading time each day for your family. The educational impact is significant, and it is great bonding time! These books are on order at Barnes and Noble at Lakeline Crossing and are expected to arrive at the end of May. You may also order them online through vendors such as Amazon. First Grade Please enjoy the first grade summer reading titles below. Remember that these required reads are just the beginning, and students should practice their reading skills all summer by reading books of interest to them for a suggested 30 minutes daily.
