Meet our new friars!
My name is Friar Brennan-Joseph Farleo and I am the
new friar on the block that will be helping Friar Rick in
the parish. I was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up
in a little town called Olean, New York. I am a graduate
of St. Bonaventure University and have a Masters degree
in Educational Administration.
I have been Pastor in various parishes throughout our
Province so I understand what Friar Rick has to deal
with. Being Pastor can be difficult at times but I am sure Friar Rick will
be able to handle any and all problems well.
I am so pleased to be here at Assumption Parish and to be able to serve
all you wonderful people. I hope and pray that in the days ahead we can
work together to make our parish a lively place of worship.
I’m Friar Rick Riccioli and I’ve been around Assumption
(living at the friary and attending the church at the high
holy days!) for about 4 years working as Director of
FrancisCorps; the friars year-long young-adult volunteer
service experience here in Syracuse and in Costa Rica.
My previous ministries include being Parish Priest at our
Toronto parish for 10 years, working in publishing and
fundraising, as well as being formation director,
vocation director and definitor (leadership council) for the friars in
Canada.
The friars have blessed me with an excellent education including a
Masters of Divinity from the Washington Theological Union and a
Master of Science in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University in
Maryland.
I’m originally from Montréal where my two sisters and niece and
nephews and uncle still live. Syracuse is just 4 hours door-to-door to my
family! Besides the proximity to family, to friends in Toronto, to friars in
NYC (Syracuse is really at the center of the universe, eh!) I’m excited to
be part of creatively figuring out how to move forward with this faithful
community, our excellent outreach ministries and this beautiful church.
Syracuse is at a turning point, as is the NorthSide. Together, I think we
can do something amazing for the Lord.
Friar Brennan Joseph and I are also very grateful that our presence is in
complement to the ministry of Sr. Ann Kenyon, Bro Jim Amhrein, Sr. Dolly
Bush, Mrs. Rosemary Costa, Sr. JP Ridgeo and all of our sisters, friars, lay
ministers and volunteers at the Assumption community of ministries.

FOCUSING THE GOSPEL:
Key words and phrases:
Stop murmuring, taught by God, the living
bread...from heaven, live forever
To the point:
Sometimes what we claim to know does not
square up with reality. The Jews in the
gospel think they know Jesus’ origins (“the
son of Joseph”) and, therefore, what he is
and is not capable of doing. He commands
them to “stop murmuring”—to stop limiting
what they know. Only by opening
themselves to be “taught by God” can they
come to see who Jesus really is (“the living
bread...from heaven”). Only with this deeper
knowledge can they receive the greatest gift
he offers—himself, the “living bread” who
brings us to “live forever,” the “more” they
have already been given. He is “the bread of
life.”

among us. Here’s some information about our
life as a community that might be useful.
Actions speak louder than words!
Feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, sharing
coffee with the lonely… our community can use your
help. Email [email protected] to
volunteer for one of our ministries. Jeff can help you
decide what would suit you best and meet the most
pressing community needs.
Joining the Church
Have you been thinking of becoming a Catholic? Are
you baptised Catholic but have never been
Confirmed? Call or contact Friar Rick 315-422-4833
to talk about what you’ve been thinking about. It will
cost you a coffee.
Getting Married
Congratulations! Come and see us as soon as possible
(at least 6 months before you would like to get
married) so that we can help you on this wonderful
journey. Yes, it is usually possible for a Catholic to
marry someone of another religion. Call 315-4224833 to find out more.

time to baptise your child? Have you been thinking of
this since your wonderful child joined your family?
