WHAT IS
THE JUVENIS FESTIVAL :
• Blue Canoe Productions is seeking to engage
youth between the ages of 13 and 30 throughout
the Kingston community in The Juvenis Festival:
Kingston’s youth-led, not for profit, annual
Youth Arts Festival.
• 1100+ total youth engagement throughout
15 productions and 24 free workshops in the
inaugural Festival in 2016.
• Happening as a part of National Youth
Week in May, The Juvenis Festival aims to
provide a platform for Kingston youth that
celebrates young people in the arts and their
invaluable contribution to our community.
FURTHER INFORMATION/WHY JUVENIS? :
This multidisciplinary Arts Festival will occur between April 30 and May 7, 2017 in various
locations throughout Kingston. It will be a platform for youth to explore and celebrate the arts
through free education and professional development opportunities, and youth-curated and
created arts presentations. This week long event will give young people an opportunity to act,
sing, dance, perform and showcase their artistic talents, as well as take free workshops and
master classes to build on their interests and skills in the arts. “Juvenis” comes from the Latin
term for ‘youthful’ and captures the spirit of our festival. We are seeking further funds to provide
opportunities that range from workshops with professional artists, youth concerts, dance shows, art
showings for young artists, an all high school theatre production and many more.
This festival is a project of Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions Ltd, a youth run, non-profit theatre
organization that was founded in 2006 by a group of Kingston high school students. Blue Canoe’s
mission is to create opportunities for youth between the ages of 13-30 to gain experience in the
performing arts by developing a professional, safe, fun and engaging atmosphere for youth to
work together on theatrical productions and other arts-based projects.
