33 free walks
for all ages and abilities.
The Wolverhampton Walking Festival offers a fantastic range of walks to
suit all abilities from a 1 mile health walk to a longer countryside ramble or
even a 12-mile challenge trail. There really is something for everyone!

explore Wolverhampton’s open spaces and surrounding countryside.

Description of Walks
• Easy – Under 2 miles on generally flat terrain and good paths.
• Moderate – Between 2 to 4 miles on undulating and uneven
paths and may have stiles.
• Difficult – Over 4 miles on uneven and sometimes hilly terrain
often with numerous stiles.

Meet: St Mary’s Church Hall, Bushbury Lane,
opp Collingwood Road, WV10 8JP.
A longer health walk over Bushbury Hill and around Northycote Farm.
Strong boots/shoes are recommended.

Come and discover some of the different tree species at Bantock Park.
Find out which tree is the oldest living species, as well as many native
species, together with our ‘edible’ hedgerow.

Figure of Eight Walk
10 miles – Difficult – 10.00 am start
Meet: Broad Street Canal Bridge / Basin, Broad Street, Wolverhampton
City Centre (across the Ring Road from the Chubb Building). Nearest car
park is in Broad Street.
A walk out to Bradmore and Penn using many hidden pathways and
green ways returning to the City Centre.

Victorian park. Learn more about some of the park’s most well-known

A really lovely walk with sweeping views of Staffordshire countryside and

West Park - Timed Mile Health Walk
1 mile - Easy - 10.15am start
Meet: In the ‘shelter’, Devon Road Entrance of West Park,

A brisk morning health walk around this Victorian park. Complete the
walk at your own pace or have a go at the ‘timed mile’& get a personal
mile time.

A free 30 minute taster session

A free Outdoor Gym taster session run by qualified fitness instructors.
Find out how easy it is to use the outdoor gym equipment which is free to

Playing Fields Health Walk
Up to 60 minutes - Moderate - 2pm start
Meet: Wednesfield Library entrance, Well Lane, Wednesfield, WV11 1XT.
A scenic walk over the Wyrley and Essington Canal via the Trapmakers
bridge to discover this secret park with its beautiful mature Copper Beech
trees, traditional rose beds, bowling green & range of fitness facilities.

Worfield to Ackleton
8 miles - Difficult - 10 am start
Meet: Worfield Village Hall car park, Worfield - £1 donation per car.

A walk through stunning countryside, with some late bluebells, if we are

Aimed at all parents, carers and grandparents with babies/ toddlers in
buggies, slings or toddling. Older siblings, pregnant women & other
parents to be also welcome.

A short walk lasting up to 90 minutes with expert historical commentary
looking at some of the livelier occupants and features of Jeffcock Road
Cemetery.

Up to 90 minutes - Moderate - 2pm start
Meet: Moreton Arms Pub Garden, Springfield Lane,

A longer health walk, including a short refreshment break at Northycote
farm café.

Evening Walk - Castlecroft:
Rail and Canal routes
5 Miles - Difficult - 6.45 pm start
Meet: The Firs Inn, Castlecroft (at the junction of Windmill Road and
Castlecroft Lane), Wolverhampton, West Midlands, WV3 8HG.
Use the pub car park if you intend to join us for a drink in the Firs after the
walk, otherwise street parking is available.
An easy walk along the route of the Staffordshire Railway walk and the
canal tow path.

Walk 1 starts at 11am till 12.30pm.
Walk 2 starts at 2pm till 3.30pm.
Meet: Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Foyer entrance,
Lichfield Street, City Centre, WV1 1DU.
Enjoy a walk and talk around the Art Gallery building, including unique
access to the gallery stores to see and hear about some fascinating
artworks and objects in the collection currently in storage, followed by a
5 min walk to the City Archives for a special tour of their restored Georgian
building and behind the scenes in their state-of-the-art archive repository.

The Walking for Health Challenge Trail is a way-marked and marshalled
walking trail with three walk distances to choose from:

The Challenge Trail is in aid of the British Heart Foundation Hospital
(raising sponsor money is entirely optional) and all the walks all start and
finish at Aldersley Leisure Village.
