BLOOD PRESSURE SELF-MONITORING PROGRAM The Skyline YMCA is now offering a Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program starting the week of August 15th. Participants will work with a trained Heart Health Ambassador for the duration of the 4-month program. Participants will self-measure their blood pressure and attend personalized consultations and monthly educational seminars. To qualify for this program, participants must: Explore new routes — Take a detour and discover new trails instead of walking the same path every day. Changing up the routine and scenery will make your walk more interesting. Plus, your curiosity may even lead you to walk farther or longer, which means you'll get in the extra steps. Go window shopping — Whether it's a downtown shopping center or indoor mall, walk around and scope out some sales. You'll have so much fun window shopping, you won't even feel like you're exercising. Bring a friend — Exercising is more fun when you have someone to do it with. Call up a friend to go on a walk with you. Having someone to talk to and explore with will make your walking time fly. Be at least 18 years of age Be diagnosed with high blood pressure Listen to music — Make a playlist of your favorite songs and bring it with you on you walks. Adding a fun beat to your workout will make it more enjoyable. You can even try making different playlists depending on your mood: upbeat, relaxing, fast-paced, slow-strolls, etc. Not have experienced a recent cardiac event Not have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias Try Geocaching — Opt into a game. Ever heard of Geocaching? It's the world's largest treasure hunt. All you have to do is create a free account. Then you'll get directions to find one of 2 million hidden geocaches around the world. Walk around and see if there is one near you! Questions?
