Following the rain on Friday the Lockington & District Living Heritage Complex Committee were pleased to have dry weather for their 20th rally. Big
attendances weren’t expected due to the National Rally at Hamilton, and
also due to the previous day’s rain so Saturday’s numbers were down, but
Sunday, assisted by the beautiful weather, was most successful. We hope
to give more details and photos of the rally in further editions of the Locky
News.
President Joe Chappel said, “The week-end went off well with no complaints, and was most grateful to all who attended, i.e. visitors, exhibitors,
stall holders, and particularly to the volunteers and Lions Club of Lockington
who tirelessly gave their time. One of the great features of our rally is the
catering. The Lions BBQ was very busy both days, and Sunday’s kitchen
roast served approx. 125 very satisfied people.”

Celebrating
100 years
of Football
11th JUNE 2017
Lockington’s 100 Years of Football Reunion is now counting down with only eight weeks to go.
A registration form is now available for you to make sure you secure your place for the weekend of
reminiscing and enjoying the reunion events and most importantly the Reunion Dinner Function.
A few highlights:– BOOK THE DATES!
The weekend will see the Clubrooms open on Saturday afternoon
for a casual get together with old team mates, friends and family,
collect your own reunion collectables
and bring along your own memorabilia to show off to everyone.
With the footy and netball games moved to Sunday,
this will be the big day versus great rivals Leitchville/Gunbower.
Sunday evening will see the occasion move to the Lockington Community Centre,
to celebrate the years of fun, friendships and success.
We have special guests lined up for storytelling, going back through the years,
much, much more and of course the Reunion Auction.
The Reunion Jumpers look fantastic
and number one to 65 will be up for auction
- what numbers did your family members wear?
Come along and don’t miss out

COUNCIL PLAN 2017 - 2021
A draft Council Plan is now on display
for public comment. The plan details key
objectives and actions to be undertaken
over the next four years. It also includes
indicators and targets that will be used
to monitor progress. Supporting this document is the strategic Resource Plan
which outlines the allocation of resources that will be
needed to achieve these objectives.
The document is available on the Shire of Campaspe
website https://www.campaspe.vic.gov.au/council/haveyour-say/open-for-comment/council-plan-2017-2021/ and
at customer service centres.

Council Plan must do so before 5.00pm on Wednesday,
24 May.
All submissions will be considered in accordance with
section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989. Submissions will be heard on Tuesday 30 May. After hearing
submissions, Council will consider a motion to adopt the
Council Plan at a Council meeting on Tuesday 6 June.

CALL FOR MEMBERS FOR FARMING ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
Following a call for people involved in the agricultural sector to join Campaspe Shire Council's Farming Advisory
Committee, applications are again open due to a low response received late last year. The committee is seen as
a valuable resource to council, providing advice about
planning matters that have the potential to impact on the
agricultural sector. Nominations from people who have
knowledge and experience in farming within the Shire of
Campaspe from a range of perspectives will be accepted
by Council until 5 May 2017. A nomination form, including
the membership criteria, are available from council’s website at www.campaspe.vic.gov.au

End Of An Era
At Milloo
This coming Sunday, 30th
April will see the end of an
era for the community of
Milloo and district. St David’s Church has hosted
Anglican worship since
1886, with the current
church built in 1919 To the
Glory of God and ‘as a memorial to those who served the Empire in the
Great War’. In its heyday, St David’s was a vibrant place of worship and a
vital part of the Milloo community. Sadly, due to a number of factors it has
not been possible for the parish of Rochester and Lockington to maintain
and make use of all its worship centres. St David’s is under contract to a
private purchaser, and so this Sunday she will be formally released from her
status as a place of worship.
A Final Service and Deconsecration
will be held on the 30th April
at 2.30pm
with the Right Reverend Andrew Curnow AM,
Bishop of Bendigo presiding.
Afternoon tea to follow at Milloo Hall.
All welcome.

Coliban Water has forecast the 2017/18 rural season to

The forecast figure will help rural customers with forward

Manager Raw Water Supply Steve Healy said that the
forecast is preliminary advice at this stage and is good

Lockington Bowls Club
Report 10/04/2017
The women enjoyed kind conditions
for their weekly social bowls on Tuesday. The winning pair on the day
were Chris Cleary and Kath Palmer
(s) in a polished display of bowls.
In the club competitions the women are almost at the final
stage of the 100 Up competition. The first round results
saw Margaret Davis defeat Annette Brereton while Kath
Palmer was too consistent for Joy Weller. Second round
found Ann Lowrie defeating Annie Haines in a close tussle, Lorraine Appleby eliminating Davis, Palmer defeating
Lois Chugg and Leanne McInnes proving too strong for
Phylis MacFarlane to move into the semi-finals. McInnes
continued with her fine form to defeat Palmer in a very
close encounter, winning her way into the final with a nailbiting 100-95 victory over Palmer. McInnes will play the
winner of the Lowrie .v. Appleby clash in the final.
On the men's side of the ledger the Presidents trophy 21
Up competition is down to the semi-finals. Graham Turner
eliminated Chris Stewart in a battle of the left -handers
and will play another "leftie" in Russell Shawcross in the
semi-final while Neil Haines will play Ray Hanson in the
other. Hanson defeated Phillip Cunnington in the quarter
final.
The 100 Up championship has been decided where Ray
Hanson took up the challenge from the premiership skipper Ken Main in a game that produced several facets of
bowls, that had to be seen to be believed. Hanson claiming the title with a 100-92 victory. Congratulations to both
bowlers. On the way to the final Hanson defeated Kalvin
Stout who had eliminated Neil Haines 100-85 in the quarter final. Main had beaten Graeme Turner earlier.
On the tournament circuit Russell Shawcross and Don
Isgro competed in the City of Echuca Ian Evans Memorial
Pairs on Easter Saturday. Winning two games and losing
a close one, the pair were happy on the day.
Birthday greetings were extended to members Don Smith
(85) and the youthful David Lupton (80) on reaching the
(O.B.E) level. Lady President Pauline Humbert also
claimed another milestone.
The club will hold the annual Presentation evening on
Friday 28th April starting at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm meal
sitting. Names are required to be listed at the clubhouse
for catering purposes.
The Bowls Vic State championships were played at Bendigo East Bowling Club from Thursday 20th April, with the
opening ceremony at 9.00am, to Wednesday 26th April.

Club Report
24/04/2017
(Continued)
Congratulations to the
Bendigo/Campaspe bowlers who have competed
in the Bowls Vic State Championships held at the Bendigo East Bowling Club. The substantial amount of rain of
Friday threatened the schedule, but the organisers and
the club greens staff did a fantastic job in managing to
keep the program up to date. On Thursday Rod Phillips
(Castlemaine) played Matt Robertson (Benalla) in the
Champion of Champions. After a promising start Phillips
was overpowered to lose 25-9. Barry Lester (Mulgrave)
won the title after defeating Gary Ball (Deer Park) 25-8. In
the women's State Singles Lee Harris (Bendigo) met Joy
McGrath (Portland) and won a close match 25-20 to make
the second round. In another torrid affair Harris defeated
Jeanne Grylls (Wycheproof) 25-16 which placed her in
the semi-finals to meet Kylie Whitehead (Wodonga). Harris tried valiantly to match her opponent, but Whitehead
was in fine form to win the battle 25-11. Whitehead proceeded to win the title after defeating Joan Tennant
(Ocean Grove) 25-17 in the final. Tennant is a past City of
Echuca and Mathoura bowler and performed well in the
matches played.
champion Phillip Thorn (City of Echuca) was drawn to
play Jay Bye-Norris (Essendon) in the first round and performed well to defeat his younger opponent 25-8 with an
awesome display of draw bowling.
In the quarter final "Prickle" came up against Brett Mahoney (Webbcona) and found the going extremely tough
as Mahoney, who also had a decisive victory 25-9 in his
first game continued on with his aggressive game plan to
defeat our local hope Thorn 25-12. Thorn bowled well but
his opponent had all the answers. Mahoney was defeated
in the final by Barry Lester (Mulgrave) 25-17 as Lester
became the first bowler to win both State Singles and
Champion of Champions for some give time. Bill Cornehls
was the last bowler to achieve the double.
The women's Champion of Champions was played with
another local chance being Veronica Kelly (City of Echuca). In the first round Kelly met R Thomassen (West
Coast) and after a shaky start Kelly showed her dominance with faultless draw bowling to eliminate her opponent 25-8. Round two meeting was with Tristannia Doolan
(Yarra). Another typical display from Kelly earned her a
semi-final berth after demonstrating her qualities to cruise
to a 25-9 victory.
Next stop was a game against well known Australian
Jackeroo Carla Krizinac (Sunbury) in the semi-final.
Shown plenty of poise Kelly stayed in the contest for a
long time before Krizinac started to demonstrate her true
skill and ability to win consecutive ends and win the game
