1. At the Emmaus Farm, the students on retreat live by the charisms of simplicity,
community, prayer, and service. How can you contribute to the experience of one
of these charisms for the students you will lead?
2. As a Farm Manager, you will be living in community with your coworkers.
Describe an experience that has helped you to be able to handle living and/or
working with others who have different strengths and values than you.
3. Farm Managers are expected to be in continual service to and relationship with
the Lewis County community, during “on” and “off” weeks (when we have groups
at the Emmaus Farm, and when we do not). How do you see your role in the
Lewis County community? In other words, how do you see yourself fitting into
the rural Appalachian county in which the Emmaus Farm resides?
4. The Emmaus Farm is dedicated to the community of Lewis County in many ways,
one of which is worshipping with people of different faiths at various protestant
churches. Additionally, you will likely work with student volunteers and
coworkers of other faiths. How will you respond to working with people who have
fundamentally different beliefs than you do?
5. The Emmaus Farm is inspired by Catholic Social Teaching. As such, we
participate in traditions such as Mass, Catholic Prayer, and discussions of
Catholic Social Teaching. Are you comfortable living and working in an
environment with these Catholic themes and practices? Do you have any
trepidation about doing so? Please explain.
