PARISH WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 3 JANUARY 2016 THE EPIPHANY OF OUR LORD 3 JANUARY 2016 TELLING THE STORY IN MEDIEVAL TIMES Stained-glass windows were not just beautiful adornments for medieval churches; they also helped a largely illiterate population learn the stories of the Bible. Three Wise Men Visit King Herod Some of the world’s most beautiful stained glass windows can be seen at The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Amiens (Basilique Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens), also known simply as the Amiens Cathedral. The cathedral was built between 1220 and 1270 and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. It is the tallest complete gothic cathedral in France. Adoration of the Kings But due to wars, hurricanes and other disasters; most of the original medieval stained glass windows have been lost. For many centuries artists have created replacement stained glass windows. One of those artists was Jacques Le Breton, from the glass studios of Jean Gaudin. In 1933 he completed this series of stained glass windows based on our Gospel reading for today. Enjoy!
