BE THANKFUL
As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, think about the many things you
have to be thankful for. Take time as a family to reflect back on the past
year and share some of these things with each other ~ your family, your
health, food on your table. Make a list of the things your family comes up
with and hang it on your refrigerator. On days when you feel like “your
glass is half empty,” look back at the list as a reminder of what you have
to be thankful for ~ there’s always something. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Food Service Deposits
Envelopes for depositing funds into your
child’s food service account are available in the
office at each of the Edwardsburg schools. If
you have children in more than one building, you
may send money for all of your children in the
same envelope and the food service personnel
will distribute the money between them as you
designate on the envelope.
Visit SendMoneyToSchool.com to monitor
your child’s account on line.
Please send your child with appropriate
clothing for the varying temperatures of our
fall season. S/he should bring along a jacket
or sweatshirt and dress in layers. Remember
that tennis shoes are required for physical
education classes and that open-heel shoes,
sandals, and roller shoes are not permitted
on the gymnasium floor or on the playground.
Parent Advisory Committee
Our Parent Advisory Committee has been established to facilitate
effective communication between parents and the school. The committee
meets throughout the school year with Mr. Nommay and teachers who
sponsor various programs and activities of interest to the committee.
Representative fourth grade parents include Steve Georgeoff, Matt
& Tammy Gustafson, Chris & Ada Hurley, John & Jennifer Majewski, and
Michelle Smith. Fifth grade parents are represented by Lori Allen, Scott &
Becky Anson, and Shelley Wimberley.
K - 5 Family Night
During Safe School Week, Behavioral Services and the PTO sponsored Family Night activities
related to the theme of “Cool to Be Kind.” About 140 people came out to play games, make
posters, eat pizza, and enjoy some quality family time. Watch for information on an Intermediate
School Family Night coming up in December.

Last school year, 3rd graders in Mr. Sorensen’s class wrote letters to the state
representative about putting new signs on U.S. 12 denoting its history of being
called Old Chicago Road. As a result of the letter submitted by Anna Cleveland,
State Representative Matt Lori, Kim Gallagher from the U.S. 12 Heritage Route
Committee, and MDOT transportation planner Darrell Harden came to the
Intermediate School for a 4th grade assembly. Anna, pictured at right reading
her letter in front of her classmates, was able to get an answer to her question
personally from these three representatives. All of our 4th graders learned a
little history about U.S. 12 and the process that it takes to get a sign created.

Food Drive . . . The Student Council recently sponsored a food drive to benefit
the Edwardsburg Food Pantry. Each class had a goal of collecting 250 cans, which would make
it possible to donate over 3,750 items to the food pantry. Each day during the week of November
7 -11, there was a theme for items the food pantry needs most. Those included canned foods,
breakfast items, side dishes, and desserts. Any class who achieved their goal of 250 items
received a Safe School Week “Band Against Bullying” bracelet for each student. An ice
cream party, compliments of the Student Council, will be awarded to the 4th grade and
the 5th grade classroom that collects the most items.

These 146 students completed the entire 1st Quarter Marking
Period without any absences, tardies, or suspensions. Great job!
Our 2011-2012 ambassadors and peer mediators attended a Leadership workshop
(pictured below) facilitated by Linda Kozlowski. Ambassadors welcome new students, help
them bond to school, introduce them to school personnel, and provide them with information
regarding school safety issues. Peer Mediators assist students in resolving disputes. The
leadership program is in its ninth year. Congratulations to our 2011-2012
