Aloha and Welcome,
Welcome to MCB Hawaii School Liaison Program’s summer newsletter. School
Liaisons support Marine Corps families with school aged children during PCS
cycles. This edition focuses on school transitions because more military families
move in the summer months than at any other time of year. Our top priority is to
provide families timely and relevant information so they are equipped to make
the best educational decisions for their children.
In this issue you’ll find information about school enrollment, the Interstate
Compact for Educational Opportunities for Military Children, and the DOE’s
resource for families with college bound students, College Scorecard. We’ve
also included information about the long-awaited teacher’s contract that was

The SL office at MCB Hawaii is located on base at Kaneohe Bay on the Island of Oahu.
Oahu is home to well-known destinations such as; Waikiki beach, Honolulu, and the
North Shore. MCB Hawaii includes seven different locations throughout the state.
Most of our families are stationed at either Kaneohe Bay or Camp H. M. Smith.
Kaneohe Bay is located on the Windward side of Oahu, while Camp H. M. Smith
is located on the Leeward side.
The majority of MCB Hawaii families reside on base at Kaneohe Bay. Manana is the
housing area for Camp H. M. Smith. While the DOE in Hawaii does not allow families
to pre-register their children for school until their arrival, families can update their children’s health records ahead of time. Our
recommendation to inbound families is to schedule an appointment for TB tests and physicals, and to ensure immunizations are up to
date before moving. During the summer it is often difficult to get a medical appointment at the Base Clinic. For more details about
enrollment requirements, health records, and where to download a PDF of the required Student Health Record (Form 14), please
see Hawaii School Enrollment Requirements on page 3.
Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children
What is the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children?

member state can elect to adopt the Compact through legislation.
How was the Compact developed?
It was developed by The Council of State Governments’ National Center for Interstate Compacts, the Department of Defense,
national associations, federal and state officials, departments of education, school administrators and military families. Each

paper topics, learn to read or just find a gripping
story for a rainy afternoon. This online resource will help
children explore and develop a lifelong love of books and
learning.

non-fiction titles. Use the Tumblesearch to search by title,

animated books that keep kids' attention. TumbleBook offers
puzzles to solve, memory and spelling games to play and videos
to watch as well. Older readers will enjoy all the read-along
books, graphic novels and other e-books found at
TumbleBookCloud. Kids can choose from a wide selection of
young adult/teen fiction, short stories and classics.
All of the books, magazines, and other resources available
through DoD MWR online libraries represent entire new worlds
However, our office recommends downloading a HI DOE
Student Health Record (Form 14) and scheduling an appointment
to update your children’s health records prior to arriving in
