Welcome Back
Welcome back everyone and I hope you had a good holiday break with your family
and managed to keep warm! We do give a warm welcome to Jaxon and his family
who have transferred from another school.
We certainly finished last term on a high with our successful whole school excursion
on the train to the Festival Theatre to see 13 Storey Tree House. To get 400
students and 100 adults on the station to catch our own 9.10am train, pack out the
Playhouse then get back again for lunch was a credit to Judy Beal’s passion and
organisation and to everyone who helped out. I’m sure it was an experience the
students will always remember.
Teachers then attended a full day of professional learning on the Friday along with
teachers from across our local partnership of schools and kindys. Early Years
teachers across kindys and schools are looking at ‘Continuity of Learning’ to ensure
the transition between preschool and school is as smooth and meaningful as
possible. Our teachers are investigating how we can make our class and school
environments as familiar as possible for our students and how best to use our new
undercover area for play equipment and activity.
Primary teachers looked at the new geography curriculum and had the opportunity
to plan units of work with their colleagues from across the partnership. I think it’s
really positive that both Geography and History have been given increased status in
the Australian Curriculum as it’s so important for our students to get an
understanding of their world and its history. The Geography curriculum is not
focussed on just learning facts about countries and geographical features but also
on how we as humans interact with our world and the changes that have and
continue to occur.
We also welcome back Donna Williams who is with us for all of Term 3 in LA2-7
whilst Di Hannagan is on long service leave.

Farewell
Unfortunately we say farewell to our OSHC Director Nakita as she
has won a position as an OSHC Programs Manager based in
Melbourne. This is a great achievement for Nakita and we
wish her all the best in her new position, I’m sure she will
be a great success. Nakita finishes at the end of next
week and in the interim Deb will be director.

Quiz Night
Saturday 23 August
Tables are filling up fast so book your team in quickly. We have some tables we are
trying to fill, so if you would like to come along we can place you or a couple of
people to fill these spots. It promises to be a lot of fun and a chance for our school
community to raise some money for our fundraising projects of a beach volleyball
court and new ‘hands on’ natural playground.
If you can help with any prizes no matter how small, please contact the front office.
Family Life Evening Sessions
A flyer will be going home this week promoting an upcoming “Growth &

Library news
We’d like to express our sincere thanks to so many
people for their help and support for the amazing
excursion at the end of last term. The visit to the
Dunstan Playhouse for the 13 Storey Treehouse was
wonderful, and all the work that happened in classrooms
beforehand equipped students extremely well for the
experience. There were many people who made the day
possible and we would particularly like to thank the
following for their support;
 Rick Russo of Lenswood Apples
who provided apples for students
after the performance free of charge!
 Coles at Warradale who provided $100
voucher which we used to buy all the
biscuits for the students to have at
morning tea.
 IGA on Oaklands Road who provided
marshmallows as a treat for the
students.
 Foodland at Hove who offered discounted water.
 The Sturt Police and their traffic control branch
who supported our walk to the station with
amazing traffic marshals
 The Adelaide Metro staff who added the extra
train to the line to accommodate our large
travelling group on the day.
 To the theatre staff who opened the balcony and
put on extra staff to accommodate our large
group.
 To all the parents and community members who
joined us on the day to celebrate in this
wonderful event.
 To the children who participated in the show as
such a wonderful audience and who behaved
themselves so well as representatives of our
school when out in the community – we were so
proud of you.
 To the staff who had worked with the students in
preparing them for this experience so that it
would be the valuable one that it was.
We also received in the mail our parcel from Andy which
included our autographed copies of all three treehouse
books which will be going into a special collection in the
Library.
We look forward to reading the writing that this
experience generates from the children both now and
into the future. Thank you again to everyone who helped
to make it possible.
Kind Regards and all the best for a fantastic Term 3.

Sick Kids
We understand that it’s sometimes difficult to organise
care for your children when they are sick but we do ask
that you don’t send them to school as with so many
children and staff in a small space they invariably spread
their germs and we end up with more people away.
Thanks
Working Bee Jobs
We desperately need help from our community to get
through a huge list of jobs. If you have any spare
time during the day and are able to come along
and help, PLEASE see the front office staff.

Community Voice
Have your say on how to strengthen and support
governance in schools and preschools
Effective and inclusive local governance is an essential
for any successful school.
An independent review is currently being undertaken on
the governance arrangements in our public schools and
preschools and we are seeking your input, as
community members and as parents.
Education is a shared experience and there is
considerable evidence that the active engagement of
parents and community members enhances the quality
of teaching and learning of children and young people.
This is a great way to get involved in how our school’s
governance is shaped for the future. To have your say,
visit
www.saplan.org.au/yoursay/shaping-our-schoolsand-preschools. Consultation closes 1 August 2014.
