Malvolio greets Olivia in a very over-familiar way
She asks why he’s smiling
Malvolio says the cross-garters are uncomfortable, but he doesn’t mind
He said he did receive the letter and will do as he has been asked – he recognised the
handwriting – he blows kisses to Olivia
He is rude to Maria
Maria asks why he’s being so inappropriate in front of Olivia
Malvolio starts quoting the letter at Olivia – “Be not afraid of greatness:”
Olivia does not understand what he is talking about – and asks God to help him – she
thinks he’s lost his mind
