makesureweputonthebestshowspossibletomaketheexperiencepositiveforeveryone.
Asateacher,Imustalsoensurethateveryonehasachancetoshineinroles,leadingor
otherwise,whicharesuitedtothem.Astudentmaybealeadinoneproductionandan
ensemblememberinthenexttwoshows,ortheymayhaveleadrolesforseveralshowsina
row.Somestudentsaremoreablethanotherstomorphverywellintodifferentcharacters,
whilesomestudentsaremorecomfortableonlyincertaintypesofroles.
Fairnessincastingisveryimportanttome,sinceIamateacherinmyheart.Itisnevera
caseofthe“best”persongettingthebiggestroleandthe“worst”persongettingthe
smallest.Theatreisn’tafootracewithafirstandlastplace–itisabouttellingastory
throughwhichtheaudiencewillemotionallyrespond.Althoughitisrarelyapparenttoa
disappointedyoungactorwhoseheartwassetonaparticularroleinwhichtheywerenot
cast,ourproductionsarealwaysafunandexcitinglearningexperienceforeveryone
involved.Castingissometimesheartbreaking,butitispartoftheatre,anddealingwith
disappointmentispartofthelearningprocess.

AT THE AUDITION
To audition, you will be expected to sing - it is a musical, after all! You may be
asked to read an excerpt from the script. If we do not ask you to read, that does
not mean we are not considering you for the show. Keep in mind that Mrs.
Prewitt knows what some of you are capable of! :)
Vocal Audition: Everyone will be asked to sing a short portion of one of the
selected songs below. Please learn one of these songs prior to the audition.
Choose the song that best fits the character you are auditioning for, or just
choose the one you like the best. At the audition, everyone will first sing in a
group, then step forward individually and sing a solo. The song you choose to
learn will not determine the specific role in which you are cast. We just want to
hear you sing! At callbacks, we may ask to hear longer song segments, or
segments from other songs from the show.
Acting Audition (Readings): If you are asked to read the script, Mrs. Prewitt will
give you a script and assign you a part to read (it does not have to be
memorized, but please familiarize yourself with it. If memorizing it helps you, that
is fine too.)
