The flu and you: What to expect this year The flu season could be a bad one this year – both for seasonal flu and for the H1N1 flu (also known as swine flu). Take the following important steps to protect yourself, your family and your coworkers. Prevention, prevention, prevention: n Wash your hands thoroughly and often. n Sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve – not your hand. n Get a flu shot. n Stay home if you’re sick. Signs of the flu: n n n n n Sudden headache. Achy muscles. Severe fatigue. High fever. Cold symptoms such as sore throat, sneezing, runny nose or cough. Seek medical help if: n You have an extremely high fever. n The fever lasts longer than three days. n It becomes difficult to breathe. n You start wheezing. n Symptoms persist or get worse. If you feel ill you can call your doctor’s office anytime day or night.
