Physical Features
Cheetahs are wild cats with long strong
legs. They can grow up to 7 feet (2.1
meters) from head to tail. Cheetahs have
yellow or tan fur with black spots. They
have a long tail and rounded ears. They can
weigh up to 132 pounds (60 kilograms).
Over the years they’ve been hunted for their
fur.

Eating Habits
Cheetahs can run up to 70 miles (113
kilometers) per hour. Being fast helps
them catch antelope. Cheetahs are
fast carnivores. Running fast helps
Cheetahs catch Antelope. Other wild
cats will try to steal Cheetahs food.
Habitat and Community
CHEETAH
Cheetahs lived in zoos for many years but they kept
getting sick and dying but nobody knew why. Scientists
figured out that the zookeepers weren’t giving them the
right food. Over the years the food in zoos changed.
Now in zoos, Cheetahs live for ten years or more. In the
wild, Cheetahs yellow or tan fur blends with the savanna
grass.
Offspring and Mating Habits

his sharp teeth.
Cheetah kittens take three or four months to come out of
their mom. Usually 4 kittens come out at a time but there
could be up to 9 kittens. When the kittens are born they drink
their mom’s milk to grow strong and healthy. Before they
grow big and strong kittens are helpless. Lions and hyenas
will try to eat them. When they are about eighteen months
old they will start their own life.
This cheetah is resting.
This kitten is about the size of
a fully grown cat.
Female Cheetahs chirp to call their kittens.
