Prelude : Simon documents
One of the first things you’ll do with Simon is to create a new Simon document.
Your Simon document (A.K.A. .simon file, because it has a .simon suffix) is the data file in
which you will save the work you do using Simon. You should distinguish your Simon
document (a data file with a .simon suffix) from Simon (the application/program, with a .jar
suffix).
Simon is not a dedicated Windows program, and it doesn't mess with your computer's
registry. Because of that, you can't simply double-click on a Simon document to engage the
corresponding application (like you can with a Word document, say).
Each Simon document is closely identified with its owner/creator. It contains the
information required to identify its owner to both Simon and Simon Says… It is encrypted,
and should not be opened by any application/program other than Simon. This is important.
Opening a Simon document using a text editor, for instance, may corrupt the document,
making it unrecognizable to Simon and/or SimonSays….
Feel free, however, to rename, copy/paste, drag/drop or save your Simon document to any
storage media (hard drive, floppy disk or CD rom, etc.). In fact, you are encouraged to save
multiple copies of your document.
Simon documents are meant to be nomadic. That is, once created, you can open your
Simon document using any related version of Simon, whether it resides on your home
computer, the one at the office, at the school, or at your friend’s house.
All new Simon documents must be registered with your Simon user account, which you
create when you create your first Simon document.
See Registering and Activating Simon and SimonSays accounts.

Engage Simon’s Internet Client.
Assuming you’re then online, Simon will automatically check to see whether your Simon
document has been registered with an active Simon Says course account.
If Simon finds that your document is not registered with an active Simon Says account, it
will display the following message.
There are two reasons why Simon might find that your document has not been registered.
1. This is your initial attempt to register, and thus you do not yet have an
active Simon Says course account.
2. The Simon document you are currently using has not been registered
with your active Simon Says course account.
If Simon determines that your Simon document hasn't been registered with SimonSays,
then you need to register it and activate it before you are able to use the many features
of SimonSays.
