HAPPY FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL HONOR for ROSEMARIE LEEK On Sunday, May 15th, the Feast of Pentecost, Bishop Serratelli honored families, couples, and men and women from around the Diocese of Paterson with a special award. This award is called “Vivere Christus Est,” and was created by Bishop Serratelli in 2009 to honor individuals and families throughout the diocese who have given themselves to promoting the Catholic faith through their commitment to living the Gospel. “Vivere Christus Est” means “to live is Christ.” This year 112 people were honored for their contributions to Catholic life in our diocese. These are the people who make our parishes the communities of faith they are and who are involved in many kinds of parish ministries. Many parishes would have a difficult time functioning without the contributions of these people. I nominated Rosemarie Leek, better known to us as Roit Leek, from Our Lady Star of the Sea parish this year. Rosemarie has been an active member of our parish for over 40 years. Roit is a teacher by profession and is now retired. She has been a catechist in our Religious Education program for 31 years, and has helped to mold the faith of hundreds of our children over these years. She is a very active member of our Rosary Altar Society and is involved in the Pro-Life movement protecting the life of the unborn. Rosemarie attends Mass on a daily basis without fail and can make it to church even when it snows, as she lives just a short walk away. She is a volunteer gardener and helps take care of our altar flowers, and the shrubs and flowers around the church. You can admire some of her handiwork by taking a moment on the way into church to enjoy the array of color around the walkway and entrances. Rosemarie is very dedicated to living out her faith and we are very lucky to have her here at Star of the sea parish. The Vivere Christus Est Award is a beautiful brass medal with the diocesan crest and a portrait of St. John’s Cathedral in Paterson on it. We congratulate Rosemarie on receiving this award for 2016 and pray that she will continue to be an active member of our parish for many more years. May the Lord shower His choicest blessings on Rosemarie Leek, our Vivere Christus Est Award recipient for this year.
