THE HEADMISTRESS
Congratulations to all of the KG boys, staff and parents for today’s wonderful Nativity. See the photo
gallery for some great shots!
Following the enormous success of the Book Fair last week and having raised a large amount for money
for the library, the School Council are currently busy asking every class for their favourite books and
authors in order to create a wish list of new books to buy.
There will be a Christmas Post Box in the No.3 entrance hall next week. Boys may post cards to friends
and staff. Please ensure that they write surnames as well as the appropriate classes on the envelopes to
ensure efficient delivery at the end of term.
We very much look forward to the Christmas Cake Sale on Monday in aid of the Walkabout Foundation. Thank you in advance to all the parents and class reps volunteering to help on Monday in the Hall.
Please ensure that all cakes are nut free.
Each year group will have a slot in which to buy the cakes during the morning. Each cake will be priced
at £1. We will be limiting the boys to buying two items to allow all the classes the opportunity to have a
good selection from which to buy.
There will be an opportunity to buy whole cakes in the afternoon too. Parents may want to bake a whole
cake which we will sell throughout the day for £10/£15.
Please let Mrs Preston (2B) or Mrs Rogn (KG2 & 2B) know if you are willing to help. It should be a
great success and hopefully we will raise lots of money from buying (& eating!) all the delicious cakes.
We are getting ready for the Carol Service next week at St. Peter’s Church and look forward to seeing
you on Monday 12th December at 2.00pm. As an advance warning, should you be unable to make the
Carol Service, please make sure there is someone to pick your son up from the church. We will not be
returning to school with the boys. Between now and then, please help your son with word learning.
A reminder that w/c 12th December there will be no clubs and you should check with staff if your son is
being tutored in that last week. Therefore, next week will be the last week of clubs. Please ensure that
nannies and carers are aware.
I look forward to seeing many of Y3 parents at the new Eaton House Prep School Information Evening
being held next week on Wednesday 7th December 6.30pm at 2 Elvaston Place SW7 5QH. There will be
an opportunity to meet Mr Huw May the Headmaster and hear his vision for the school for September
2017.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Annabel, Headmistress

YEAR 3 UPDATE
Thank you to 3B, Miss Louise and Miss Jayne for a truly amazing Assembly on Wednesday. It was a great
start to the day and a whistle stop tour of the history of London. On the theme of our capital, a reminder
that we will be visiting the Museum of London on Tuesday 6th December. Please make sure that your son
is in school promptly on the trip day, in his school uniform and with a packed lunch and a small snack. If
you have not yet returned the consent form, please do so on Monday morning.
The Senior Choir will be singing on Sunday at the Elizabeth Street Christmas Fair between 11:45 and
12:00pm. It is a lovely community event, so if you are in the area please do go and watch.
We had our last swimming lesson on Tuesday and the boys were allowed to go on the water slide. Next
term we will be doing hockey on Tuesday mornings and it is essential that your son has a mouth guard.
They can take a few days to arrive so please order one as soon as possible. Football next term will still be
on Mondays and Fridays.
On Monday there is a Y1 and Y2 Christmas Cake Sale in aid of the Walkabout Foundation. If your son
would like to buy a cake, please make sure he comes to school with a maximum £2.
Next week is the last week of clubs and with the exams looming we will not be having a party in 8+ Club
on Monday so please do not send your son into school with crisps, sweets etc. Instead we promise there
will be a big party in February!
Have a lovely weekend,

YEAR 2 UPDATE
The boys have continued to work hard this week despite the cold weather. They have worked on mixed
mathematical problems and balancing sums in Maths. In English we practised a multiple choice listening comprehension. They thoroughly enjoyed learning this new skill. In Reasoning the boys completed
problem solving triangles and working out fractions of shapes.
We were thrilled to watch the KG Nativity dress rehearsal on Thursday, the boys were fantastic.
In PSHEE, we talked about behaviour on school trips. We were delighted that the boys listened carefully
and their behaviour was impeccable at the Polka Theatre. We all enjoyed ‘Babe, the Sheep Pig’ and we
thank the parents who came to help.
Thank you to all the boys for their fantastic cake sale posters. We are hoping to raise £1000 this year for
The Walkabout Foundation, which will be enough to buy five new wheelchairs for those in need. Homework this weekend is baking delicious cakes of any variety (no nuts please).
We all look forward to a yummy Monday. Have a wonderful weekend.
Miss Helen, Year 2 Coordinator
MUSIC
Carols for Carol Service
Please can all of the pupils memorise their words for the Carol Service. Thank you.
Senior Choir to Perform at Belgravia Christmas Sunday
The Senior Choir has been invited to sing at the Belgravia Christmas Sunday extravaganza this Sunday 4th
December in Elizabeth Street. Please could all Choir members and their parents meet Miss Annabel and
myself at the foot of the platform, which is usually around Chester Row/Square and Elizabeth Street at
11:30am and the Choir will sing from 11:45-12:00 pm.
Choir members should be dressed in complete school winter uniform, including duffle coat, hat and scarf
in case of cold weather. Please wear the green socks with the red bands and if you could polish their
school shoes it would be great as when they are singing on the platform their shoes are the first thing you
see. It is a fantastic venue and always a pleasure to represent the school at such a festive occasion. I look
forward to seeing you there.
Senior Choir to Meadbank
Next week on Wednesday 7th December, the Senior Choir will be singing at Meadbank Care Home, 12
Parkgate Road, Battersea SW11 4NN at 2.15pm. Please could you ensure that the boys come to school in
complete school winter uniform with shoes polished. The boys will be delivered there and returned to
school by minibus but you are welcome to join us there if you wish.
Miss Jayne, Head of Music
YEAR 1 UPDATE
The Y1 boys have survived a very chilly week! If the cold weather continues, please make sure your son is
appropriately dressed and brings his jumper to school.
The boys have been further developing their writing skills, working hard to input those hidden full stops.
Please can you all continue to encourage correct posture and pencil grip; we are doing a big push on
handwriting. In Maths they learnt to create their own pictogram and to measure in both non-standard and
standard units.
On Monday it is the Christmas Cake Sale. Their homework for the weekend is to therefore bake something
yummy to bring in. Please remember NO nuts.
A reminder that it is party time in clubs next week (again a reminder that we are a nut free school) and that
there will be NO clubs during the final week of term.
Please continue to practise words for the Carol Service.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you all on Monday.

KG UPDATE
Well done to all of the boys for a simply super performance of The Grumpy Innkeeper this afternoon. The
boys should all be as proud of themselves as we are! I hope that you all enjoyed it! The DVD is available
from Wizard - please bring order forms into school next week if you wish to buy one. Thank you to all of
the staff that made this afternoon possible and to you all for the wonderful costumes and help with line
learning.
Next week, we will be practising for the Carol Service on Wednesday and Friday. Please provide a small
snack and drink in the blazer/duffel coat pockets for the Wednesday rehearsal.
On Wednesday 14th, we will be going to the theatre to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Please make
sure that you have filled in your permission slip and returned it to your class teacher.
Have a lovely weekend!
Miss Clare, KG Coordinator
GAMES
A glimpse of the Swimming Gala cup at the Porchester Hall confirmed that
2004 was the last time our swimming team won it! Sadly last Friday was
no different as we lost 44-27. Wetherby were as usual fielding a strong
team and with their best swimmer able to complete 25m in circa 20s and
ours (August Ringdal) in 26.4s the outcome from the off was not promising. There
were some individual performances in our team though that were praiseworthy and
deserving of colours. Toby Miller 3B was inches away from winning his backstroke
race. August Ringdal 3B despite having been off sick before the Gala still put up a
good fight the races he swam in. Nicholas Katsambas 3B despite his developmental
diving technique breast stroked his way with an intensity to come second in his race.
Finlay Dunn 3A swam his 2 lengths of the front crawl relays with terrific efficiency, speed and technique.
Congratulations to all 4 of these boys on earning their Swimming Colours. A special mention should also
be made of Daniel Panna 2A who also made a substantial contribution to the team in 2 relay races. Next
term there will be another Gala against The Manor and it is hoped that the team continue with their efforts
with press ups, joining the Swimming Club next term (open to boys from Y1) , or gaining tuition and
practice time elsewhere.
The boys below in the Wednesday Swimming Club have achieved the following distances and will be
receiving their badges and certificates accordingly in Monday’s Assembly: Ethan Thirlwall 1A
5m; Maximilian Sibony 1C & Alexander Davies 1C 20m; Noah el Khouri 1B & Leander Offerhaus
1A 40m; Ale Alexandridis 1B 420m; Matt Zhao 1C - 600m; Hiro McLinden 3B 800m (achieved
1100m before but time ran out); Ethan Li 2B 850m (achieved 1000m before but time ran out); Daniel
Panna 2A 900m; John Moulds 3B & Finlay Dunn 3A 1000m. On account of all the Winter Wonderland
traffic the boys had less time than usual for their session and some of them were still going strong at the
end when time was called. There will be another opportunity next term with hopefully more time to better
the results above.
On Friday despite Black Friday’s efforts to thwart our
attempts to get to Barn Elms for the Y3 fixture against St.
Phillip’s our perseverance paid off. The boys from St.
Phillip’s were Y4 (4 of whom were very friendly and in the 3s last
year at Eaton House ) and in this context some of our results were
very pleasing and impressive. The A team narrowly lost 3-2 with
Hugo McNeill 3A scoring one and very nearly another and
supplying good ball into the box from the right wing. Toby Miller 3B was
excellent in defence in his precise marking, tackling and passing. Both
boys are the first boys this year to receive their Football Colours. The B
team performed very well only just losing 1-0. Y2 boys Luke Gleason 2C
and Diego Rubino 2B were able to make their presence felt. On account of
the mixed sides St. Phillip’s fielded to even things up a bit the C team lost
8-1 and the D team lost 3-1.
On Monday, we held the annual Adams Memorial Football Tournament in Battersea Park. It involved only
the A teams from three schools; ourselves, Wetherby and The Manor, as Miss Elena, before she died 9
years ago at the tender age of 36, taught at all these schools. Our A team took a long time to get going in
their first match against The Manor losing 6-1. The marking and passing were both very poor. However
in our second match against Wetherby the team showed how much progress they’ve made this term in losing narrowly 1-0 particularly as Wetherby managed to draw 0-0 with The Manor! Ultimately it was The
Manor’s day who managed to retain the cup. I think Miss Elena would have enjoyed watching it all as the
standard from all the teams, including us at times, was impressively high.

SCIENCE
Another fabulous week of excitement down in the Science lab again this
week. The Y1’s have been experimenting about objects that float and sink.
The Y2’s have been studying rocks and many boys have brought in some of
their favourites. We have seen some fabulous examples of Igneous rock and
we have been using magnifying glasses to get an up close view of the differences between Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks.
In Y3 we have been looking at the Water Cycle. We had a water tasting experiment where we tested the taste of tap water versus spring water and bottled
water. We have been learning to draw borders and to present our work in a
colourful poster. They will be ready next week.
In Science Club this week the boys experimented with cornflour and water
to make ‘Oobleck’. They learned that it is a non-Newtonian fluid and has
properties of both a solid and liquid. They loved being able to punch the
mixture and watch it pour through their fingers. They also enjoyed seeing a
video about how we can walk on custard, which is also a non-Newtonian
fluid.
Finally, the Science Lab fish ‘Whale Tail’ and ‘Mini Skirt’ are looking for a
home over the Christmas holidays.
Please contact Mr C asap ([email protected]) if you would
like to fish-sit.
Thank you and have a lovely weekend.
