Knowing the Product: ArmorLock seaming tape is not a one size fits all application. ArmorLock was designed to work with high end carpets and cushions. A minimum of 8 lbs. cushion must be used. Synthetic felt cushion is recommended. If you are using the product for a temporary installation, such as an convention or other temporary installation, cushion is not required. Please adhere to the floor covering manufacturer’s guidelines when installing their product. Seam Cutting and Edge Preparation: ArmorLock requires that the CRI Carpet Installation Standard 2011 section 12.0-‐
12.3 be followed during installation. Installation Procedure: After the carpet has been placed in the room and acclimated (please refer to the floor covering manufacturer’s guidelines), the seam edges are cut and sealed, and then we are ready to begin seaming. Step 1: ArmoLock is to be cut even with the back side of the tack strip on both ends of the seam. Hammer down the nails on the tack strip the same width of the seam metal plus one nail on each side of the tape, allowing the metal to lie flat on the tack strip. Step 2: Your seam must be made on a hard surface. Use a board around 8 to 12 inches wide. Place the board underneath the seaming metal for the entire length of the seam. Use a string for removal of the board. Step 3: With all carpets the seam area must be pre-‐stretched. Using a power stretcher, pre-‐stretch at least one stretcher head width on both sides of the seam. Step 4: Remove the silicone paper. Step 5: With a 3inch vinyl roller, roll the seam edges down into the fiber tape. Make sure the seam is properly abutted with no Gaps or overlaps. The use of a kicker or a mini stretcher may be used. Step 6: Starting in the middle of the seam with the same roller, roll the carpet down onto the teeth. Make sure all the teeth have penetrated the backing. Step 7: Using a white rubber mallet, bend all the teeth over towards the center. Step 8: Remove board and continue stretching.
