Making The Necklace
1
The Petal Surround - Prepare the needle with 1.5m of single
thread. Tie the ring onto the thread with a double knot 15cm
from the end.
The Foundation Row - The first row of 30A beads sits around the
outer rim of the ring - they are applied in Brick Stitch. Thread on 2A.
Pass the needle through the ring and then through the second A
bead in the opposite direction than before to bring the two beads
to sit on the outer edge of the ring with the holes in the beads
sitting on the outer edge of the ring (fig 1).
fig 1
fig 2
2
Thread on 1A. Pass the needle through the ring and through the
new bead in the opposite direction from before. Pull the new
bead to sit alongside the previous bead with the hole sitting on the
outer edge of the ring (fig 2).
Repeat the stitch in step 3 twenty-seven more times to give you a
complete circle of beads around the edge of the ring with all of the
holes sitting on the outer edge of the ring. Pass the needle down
through the first bead of the circle and out through the second
bead to emerge on the edge of the bead circle.
You now start the Herringbone Stitch petals – this stitch is based on
pairs of beads – each stitch adds two beads to a pair of beads from
the previous row. To increase you will add an extra bead or beads
between the pairs.

Thread on 2A. Pass the
needle down through
bead 3 on the ring (towards
the metal ring) and up
through bead 4 (away from
the metal ring). Thread on
2A and pass down through
bead 5 on the ring and up
through bead 6 (fig 3).
fig 3
Repeat around the ring to add fifteen pairs of 2A beads. Finish the
row by bringing the needle out through the first bead of this row.
Each petal is supported by three pairs of beads on the row just completed. Each petal is worked separately.

Pass the needle through the following 1A and the 1A above it to
be ready to make the next 2A bead stitch.
Repeat step 7 and work one 2A stitch to complete the row. Turn the
needle ready for the next row.
9
Petal row 4 – Start with a 2A stitch across the first pair bringing
the needle down through the second A bead of the previous
row. Thread on 1B and pass through the first 1B bead of the 2B added in the previous row. Thread on 2B and pass through the second
1B bead of the 2B stitch of the previous row.
Thread on 1B and pass the needle up through the following 1A and
the 1A above it to be in the correct position to make the next 2A
stitch.
Repeat step 9 and work one 2A stitch to complete the row. Turn the
needle ready for the last row.
4
Petal row 1 – The needle is emerging from the 1st bead of the
first pair that will support this petal. Thread on 2A. Pass the
needle down through the 2nd A bead of the first pair.
Increase stitch – This adds
an extra bead between
the last pair worked and
the new pair about to be
worked. Thread on 1A.
Pass the needle up through
the first 1A bead of the next
pair around the ring.
10
Petal row 5 - Thread on 1A and pass down the second A bead
of the first pair of the previous row. Thread on 2B and pass the
needle up through the first 1B of the previous row. Thread on 1B
and pass the needle down through the 2nd 1B of the previous row.
Thread on 2B. Pass the needle up through the next 1A bead along
the previous row.
Repeat step 10 across the next 2A and 2B beads. and add a final 1A
across the last pair of 2A to complete this last row.
11
This slots the new bead in-between the pairs of beads (fig 4).
Pass the needle right down through the A beads of the end
column to the metal ring. Pass the needle up through the next
1A bead around the ring to be in the correct position to start the
next petal across the next three pairs of 2A beads.
Standard Stitch - Thread on 2A and pass the needle down through
Repeat to add four more petals in total.
Make one more increase stitch and one more standard stitch.
12
fig 4
the second bead of the pair.
5
You now need to work back across the eight beads just added so
you will need to turn the needle.
fig 5
Turn the Needle - Pass the
needle down through the 1A
bead on the previous row and
back up through the last bead of
this row to emerge ready to start
the new row (this will leave a
little strap of thread around the
bead on the previous row) (fig 5).
The Pearl Centre - Prepare the needle with 1.5m of single
thread and tie a keeper bead 15cm from the end.
Thread on 5C. Pass the needle through the first 1C in the same
direction as before to bring the C beads into a circle. Pass through
the following 4C beads to strengthen the work. The needle will be
emerging from the fifth C bead of the circle.
13
Thread on 4C. Pass the needle through the fifth C bead of the
circle in the same direction as before to draw the new beads
into a new circle alongside the first circle. Pass the needle through
the next 1C bead around the first circle (fig 6).
fig 6
6
Petal row 2 – Thread on 2A and pass down through the 2nd
bead of this pair. Thread on 2B and pass the needle up through
the first 1A bead of the next pair along. Work a standard 2A stitch as
before.
Repeat step 6 and turn the needle ready for the next row.
7
Petal row 3 – Make a standard 2A stitch across the first pair of 2A
passing the needle down through the second A bead of the pair
and the A bead below it on the previous row. Now pass the needle
through the first 1B of the 2B added on the previous row. Thread on
2B. Pass the needle through the 2nd B bead of the previous row to
pull the new 2B into the gap between the 2B beads on the previous
row.
fig 7
14
Thread on 4C. Pass the needle through the first C bead of
the previous circle in the opposite direction than previously
threaded and the C bead on the first circle where you started this
step, in the same direction as before, to create a third circle.
Pass the needle through the next 1C bead of the original circle (fig
7).
Repeat step 14 two more times to give you one central circle with
four interlinked circles surrounding it – you now need to close up
the last gap.

15
Pass the needle up through the last 1C of the 4C added to
make the circle in step 13. Thread on 2C. Pass the needle down
through the first 1C of the last circle made as before to close up the
shape.
You should now have one central circle surrounded by five interlinked
circles.
16
Pass the needle through the following 1C on the original ring
and the following 3C of the circle made in step 13. Thread on 1C.
Looking at the next circle around the work there are 2C beads on the
edge of that circle that the thread passes through just once – pass the
needle through these 2C beads. Thread on 1C and pass through the 2C
beads of the next circle that sit on the edge of the shape.
Repeat to add three more C beads around the edge of the shape.
17
Slip stitch the completed motif to the front of the metal ring to
complete the pendant.
Remove the keeper bead and finish off all of the thread ends securely.
18
Make the Strap - Prepare the needle with 2m of single thread and
tie a keeper bead 15cm from the end.
Thread on 1A, 1B, 1A and 15B. Pass the needle back through the
1A,1B,1A beads to bring the 17B beads into a loop for one half of the
clasp (fig 8).
fig 8
19
Thread on 8.5cm of A
beads, 1C, 5.5cm of A
beads, 1C, 4.5cm A beads,
1C, 1A, 6B, through the top B
bead of one of the petals.
Reverse the sequence in step
19 to make to other side of
the strap.
20
The Bead Tag Thread on 1B, 1A, 1D,
1A, 1B, 1A, 1D, 1A, and 3B.
Pass the needle back through
the last A bead added, and
the next 8 beads to emerging
from the last A bead of the
long strand (fig 9).
fig 9
21
Thread on sufficient B beads to reach the first C pearl bead
back along the strand.
Pass the needle through the last A bead before the pearl, the pearl
and the next A bead.
Repeat step 21 twice more working down toward the pendant.
Thread on 6B and pass through the top pendant bead again.
22
Work the other side of the strand to match. When you reach
the loop pass through all the beads of the loop ready to add
the third strand.
Create a third strand exactly the same as the last EXCEPT when you
reach the front 6 B beads on either side of the flower DO NOT make
another strand, just pass the needle through one of the existing
strands until you emerge from the first A,B,A combination on the
other side of the necklace.
Complete the third strand on the other side of the pendant and
finish off both thread ends securely.
