Dorset Youth County Cup Finals Day
SUNDAY 23 MARCH 2014, KING GEORGE V PLAYING FIELDS, FERNDOWN
The seven Dorset Youth Finals all went off in the best of sporting traditions during mixed weather
conditions, as rain, hail, sun and a cold wind all played their part in producing seven exciting finals for
the large crowds to enjoy.
Poole Town FC Wessex and Wimborne Town Youth both won two of the Dorset County Youth Cup
Finals. Wimborne Town Youth winning the Under 15 Competition against Dorchester Town Youth by
three goals to one, all the goals coming in the second half and the Under 12 Competition where the
only goal of the game from James Mitchell ten minutes before the break was enough to clinch the
Trophy over Poole Town FC Wessex.
Poole Town FC Wessex beat their local rivals Poole Town Youth in the Under 13 Final, Poole Town Youth
initially taking the lead, before Poole Town FC Wessex added their four goals. Poole Town FC Wessex
also won the Under 10 Mini Soccer Final , two first half goals from Kyle Smith secured the Cup for the
Red and Whites.
Branksome United Youth beat Bridport Youth in a very close competitive match to win the Under 14
Cup, a first half goal from Bradley Cherrett was enough to secure the Trophy. Weymouth FC Youth hit
the biggest score of the day, hitting Branksome United Youth for six despite Branksome taking an early
lead.
Perhaps the most entertaining game of the day came in the Under 16 Final where an extra time goal
from Rhys Hayter won the Cup for Lyme Regis, the West Dorset outfit coming from behind in the 80
minutes against a strong Branksome United Youth team to force extra time.
Most of the Match Officials officiating in the matches were supplied by the Dorset Referees’ Youth
Academy, ably supported by Academy Director Ben Cobb, their Mentors and Coaches, all of which
contributed to a fantastic day for Dorset Youth Football.
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended, particularly the large number of DCFA
Council Members and County Office Staff, who all freely gave their time and pulled together to make
the event so successful and enjoyable.
