1. The Metric System of Measurement
a. Metric Units
b. Metric Conversions
c. English-to-Metric Conversions
2. Significant Figures
a. Precision & Accuracy in
Measurements
3. Basic Graphing Skills
All of these concepts are foundational
to the development of a solid
understanding of physics. Students
will need to continue to practice their
understanding as we progress into the
unit on linear motion.

Revisions
If you are given the
opportunity, you ca
n fix it!
Revisions can be
completed for up to
full
credit.
You need to meet th

due dates.
Help sessions are of

and after school on
Thurs.
After the due date
has
passed, the revisions
will
no longer be accept

With flu season on the way, please help
keep the germs out of the classroom by
washing your hands frequently with soap
and water. Also, cough or sneeze into
your shirt sleeve (the
germs will die on the
fabric). Thanks!

SUB-CHALLENGE
WEEKLY DISCUSSION QUESTION
EVERY NON-QUIZ WEEK, THE STUDENTS
aRE ASSIGNED A DISCUSSION QUESTION
BASED ON THAT WEEK’S TOPIC OF STUDY.
Each time I have to be out of the classroom, the
students are challenged to be polite and courteous,
productive, and on-task. To encourage the students
in this I have offered an incentive:
The classroom period that can achieve three subchallenges can earn a day off from physics, with a
movie (G or PG rating, family friendly) and popcorn
provided by me. The students may bring in other
snacks and beverages. If you have any questions or
concerns about this please email me at
[email protected]

A few concerns...
The pace of the class thus far has been slower than I
would like to have the class working. This is a high-school
level course and as such needs to run on a more
accelerated time table. Many of the students have taken
accelerated/advanced before and, therefore, should
understand this process. While I appreciate that this is
only the first few weeks of the year, the students need to
be building their strategies and stamina for this type of
pace, as high school will be no different next year. I have
notice many students, pick and choose which
assignments to put their efforts into and this is only going
DISCUSSION QUESTION RESPONSES ON DUE
BY 2:45 p.m. if on paper or by MIDNIGHT
ON edmodo FRIDAY OF THAT WEEK, UNLESS
OTHERWISE NOTED.
THE DISCUSSION QUESTION REQUIRES THAT
THE STUDENTS BE ABLE TO GET ONTO THE
INTERNET. TURNING IN THE ASSIGNMENT IS
A multi-STEP PROCESS:
1) GET ONTO EDMODO TO SEE THE
DIRECTIONS AND ANSWER RESPONSE.
2) CLICK ON THE “TURN IN” BUTTON.
3) Read question, type response in
the provided comment box.
4) Read what you wrote - make
sure you have fully responded
to the prompt.
5) Click on the "Turn in assignment".
**By attempting all the discussion
questions, the students allow
themselves the opportunity to practice
the thinking required to demonstrate
they truly understand the concepts,
receive feedback, and, possibly, make
improvements. When a student chooses
not to complete this assignment, they
are limiting their ability to be
successful in the class.**
to lead to missed opportunities to learn
http://inventors.phillipmartin.info/
and practice the concepts.
Ultimately, the students will
be earning grade that is
reflective more of the behaviors
and choice than their actual level of
understanding.
