Dr Louisa Alessandri Research Grant:
application criteria
The $30,000 Dr Louisa Alessandri Research Grant is now open for applications for research
projects. The grant funds projects that improve service delivery, program development or
general practical outcomes for people with disability.
The Disability Services Commission welcomes applications for projects that will progress the
State Government’s vision: that all people live in welcoming communities that facilitate
citizenship, friendship, mutual support and a fair go for everyone.
The project must have a primary focus on practical and solution-driven outcomes that will
benefit the lives of people with disability.
The research project must be completed and the final report submitted to the Disability
Services Commission by 31 October 2017. The final report and research must be made
publically available for the broader West Australian community.
Who can apply
Applications are welcome from:

organisations, and

individuals.
Proposals from individuals and organisations that can demonstrate the research will be
undertaken in partnership with a West Australian research institute – where the research
institute can offer in-kind support – will be considered favourably.
Application criteria
All Applications must include:
1. A current resume or business profile
2. A statement in no more than five pages outlining:
o
the research concept/theme
o
practical outcome/s for individuals with disability
o
methodology, where appropriate
o
proposed timelines for key deliverables, including regular updates
o
detailed costing breakdown.

Assessment
The proposed research must meet the following 6 criteria:
1.
be of high quality, in terms of clarity of research objective, study design and
feasibility.
2.
contribute new understanding of the experiences of people with disability, their
support needs, and the services provided.
3.
lend itself to practical outcomes for people with a disability and/or focuses on
pragmatic and solution-driven research outcomes.
4.
directly involve the design or delivery of supports and services to people with
disability.
5.
be conducted by a capable team and/or significantly builds capacity for future
research and evaluation.
6.
represent value for money.
Other considerations

Proposals that depend on a significant proportion of the grant to be allocated to
management or supervision fees for research institutes will not be supported.

Proposals that involve study tours will not be supported.

Depending on the applications received, a decision may be made considered to share
the funding between one or more proposals. Partnership applications between
individuals and/or organisations will be considered.
