Students are back to their regular lists! These are coming
home today for students to cut and sort. Remember,
Tuesday students complete a no peek sort, Wednesday
students complete a writing sort, Thursday is to study and
Friday is the test!
This week in vocabulary we are studying the stem BI=2.
Students are dividing and conquering words such as
bicycle, bilingual, binoculars, bifocals, and biped. Students
have also been introduced to stems within these words
such as ped=feet so biped means two feet.
We are focusing on wondering and asking questions while
reading. This skill is being reinforced with our Making
Meaning program. We have begun the story All In a Day’s
Work. Students are independently wondering and asking
questions while reading.
In Daily 5, students will meet with me based on reading
levels to begin a novel study. Novels will be given out
Wednesday. We will begin work on story elements and
vocabulary. I am excited for the students to begin the
novel studies. Please ask your child which novel they are
reading. Some reading will have to be done at home!
In writing the children have been writing and typing their
rough drafts. They will begin illustrating their own Fairy
Tale books and will present these to you at the Learning
Fair in April!
