Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue, and organ in
your body needs water to work correctly. For example, your body uses
water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate joints.
Water is needed for good health.
How much water should I drink each day?
You may have heard different recommendations for daily water intake.
Most people have been told they should drink 6 to 8 8-ounce glasses of
water each day, which is a reasonable goal. However, different people
need different amounts of water to stay hydrated. Most healthy people
can stay well hydrated by drinking water and other fluids whenever they
feel thirsty. For some people, fewer than 8 glasses may be enough. Other
people may need more than 8 glasses each day.
If you are concerned that you are not drinking enough water, check your
urine. If your urine is consistently colorless or light yellow, you are most
likely staying well hydrated. Dark yellow or amber-colored urine is a sign
of dehydration.
How do I know if I'm dehydrated?
Symptoms of dehydration include the following:
Little or no urine, or urine that is darker
than usual
Dry mouth
Sleepiness or fatigue
Extreme thirst
Headache
Confusion
Dizziness or lightheaded feeling
No tears when crying
Don't wait until you notice symptoms of dehydration to take action.
Actively prevent dehydration by drinking plenty of water.

Keep a bottle of water with you during the day. Carry a reusable water
bottle and fill it from the tap instead. If you don't like the taste of plain
water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime to your drink. Be sure to drink
water before, during, and after a workout. When you're feeling hungry,
drink water. Thirst is often confused with hunger. True hunger will not
be satisfied by drinking water. Drinking water may also contribute to a
healthy weight-loss plan. Some research suggests that drinking water
can help you feel full.

On September 8, 1943 in
Little Rock, Arkansas a
precious baby girl named
Resident Spotlight
Carol was born to Lucy and
featuring
Charlie Shaeffer. She was
Mrs. Carol Vincent
little sister to brother
Charlie Jr. and years later
became big sister to brother
Jim. Carol spent most of her childhood in Little
Rock until she turned 13, and her parents moved to Tallahassee, Florida. Many of
her childhood memories are of playing softball with her brothers, friends and most
importantly, the family dog named “Hippie Bones”. Carol also enjoyed Hula
Hooping, B-bopping and Jitterbugging. After High School graduation, Carol decided
she needed a change of scenery and Baton Rouge, Louisiana was her destination.
In 1962, Carol married and two years later gave birth to her first son Billy,
currently living in Florida. Seven years later came her second son Bobby, currently
living in Baton Rouge. Carol has a wonderful daughter in law, Ellyn—married to
Billy, and they have two sons she is very proud of. Her oldest grandson Bryson just
finished his degree at Florida State University. Carols second grandson Sam is
currently in his junior year at Florida State University. Naturally, Carols favorite
football, basketball and baseball teams are Florida State.
Carol retired as the Purchasing Agent for Cajun Electric Power Coop in 2002.
Retirement meant that she and her husband Marvin, married in 1996, could take the
boat on the water and fish all day long. Fishing was one of many things that Marvin
and Carol enjoyed doing together.
Carol continues to be very active with her family and friends, either playing
board games, going to the Casino, exercising or just relaxing and chatting. She has
always had a passion as a young child and her adult life of helping as many people as
she can. Carol said, “Helping people makes me feel good inside.”
If you have trouble remembering to drink water, drink on a schedule.
For example, drink water when you wake up; at breakfast, lunch, and
dinner; and when you go to bed.
Or drink a small glass of water at the beginning of each hour. Drink
water when you go to a restaurant. It will keep you hydrated, and it's
free!
