Turf Talk
It’s getting colder by the day! I’m hoping we do not have
a repeat of last year’s winter. The damaging cold really left
its mark throughout the spring and summer, not allowing
me to forget how angry Mother Nature can be when we
least expect it. Every year is made of highs and lows and
no one knows what this season will bring. Hopefully it
will be mild so that our plants and turf are better able to
recover. I’m crossing my fingers…

For now, I’m enjoying football season. I love to cheer
on my alma mater, the Georgia Dawgs, whether they
win or lose.
About This Service
Today we applied our fall (Round 6) application to your
lawn. Cool-season (Fescue) lawns received a balanced
fertilizer. This fertilizer will aid the germination of your
newly seeded Fescue lawn.
Warm-season (Bermuda and Zoysia) grasses received
a pre-emergent and a post-emergent herbicide. These
products will prevent many winter annual weeds and will
control most of the broadleaf weeds in your lawn at this
time. As the weather gets cold, your Bermuda/Zoysia lawn
will be going dormant. Even if your lawn is brown, it will
still need our winter application to aid in the control of
weeds during the winter and early spring. If you have any
questions, please call our office. We’ll be glad to help in
any way.
DID YOU RECEIVE A TREE AND SHRUB
APPLICATION TODAY?
The tree and shrub application today consisted of dormant
oils and insecticide. This application utilizes oils to help
minimize the use of pesticides later in the year. The
oils actually smother insects and their eggs. By using
a sticking agent, the oils remain on the plants longer,
thereby increasing their length of effectiveness. This helps
to prevent damaging populations next season.

Football Season is Here – Let’s Have a Party!
In honor of football season, we brought back the recipe section of our newsletter. These pretzels are
super easy to make and great for snacking during the game.
SPICY SEASONED PRETZELS
• 1 bag of tiny twist pretzels
• 1 cup of vegetable or canola oil
• 2 teaspoons of garlic salt
• 2 teaspoons of lemon pepper
• 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
• 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
1) Pour oil and spices into a gallon ziploc bag. Seal and shake to evenly combine oil with spices.
2) Add in pretzels, seal up ziploc bag, and gently shake to combine.
3) There are 2 different ways you can finish the pretzels:

PTION 1: you can leave them in the ziploc bag and allow pretzels to soak up the seasoned oil
for at least 6 hours, or ideally for 24 hours. Turn bag to shake up pretzels every few hours.
5) O
PTION 2: bake the oil soaked pretzels in a 200 degree oven for about 1 hour, stirring several
times to ensure even baking. Allow to cool before eating.
6) Pretzels will keep in an airtight container for 3 weeks.
