ATC Announces Results of Downtown Lafayette
Compliance Operation

Baton Rouge: The Louisiana Office of Alcohol & Tobacco Control (ATC) has concluded a three month undercover
operation of alcohol establishments in and around the downtown Lafayette area resulting in the issuance of
nearly sixty violations. Sixteen businesses were cited for forty combined violations ranging from sales to minors
and illegal drug activity to operating without a valid alcoholic beverage permit. An additional thirty-seven
violations were issued to employees of the businesses for selling alcoholic beverages to persons under twentyone years of age.
Twenty-six businesses permitted by the ATC were called in by Commissioner Troy Hebert for a special briefing to
discuss the severity and possible implications of the alleged violations. Information was provided on preventative
measures in an effort to halt future violations and increase compliance with the alcoholic beverage control laws
and regulations.
“Permits to sell alcoholic beverages are a privilege; not a right. ATC is taking a proactive stance towards the
prevention of youth access to alcoholic beverage and tobacco products and ensuring that all businesses regulated
by the Agency are operating safely and responsibly,” stated Hebert.
Administrative hearings will be held in Baton Rouge on the alleged violations. The businesses and servers face
penalties ranging from fines up to suspension or revocation of their alcoholic beverage permits.
