She is on a mission to share this belief with anyone willing to listen - through photography, mixed media art, art journaling, blogging, workshops and retreats. Patty’s current art form is photo-based mixed media. She loves combining images with meaningful words and seeks to create art that acts as inspiration, encouragement and empowerment. Patty was recently involved in a grant project, teaching creative expression and art journaling to a group of women in transitional housing and is also a hospice volunteer. IT was said that Taco Bell purchased the Liberty Bell SO that they could change their name to the Taco Liberty Bell. It was a hoax that stirred the nation to great outrage until they realized it was just a prank. On April 8th many participated in the Draw a Bird Day. A day that was started by a 7 year old girl named Dorie Cooper in 1943 in an attempt to cheer up wounded vets while recuperating in the hospital. A poster will soon be on display to show what wonderful artist we have among us. (If you didn’t get a chance to draw your bird yet you still have time.) The Golden Rules of life have been rewritten – Thank you everyone that participated with this challenge to make life more fun and flexible. Esther and Ray did a great job figuring out the funny Anagrams. I am with Ruth who said “Why not give us something Hard!” A DECIMAL POINT = I’m a dot in place. The Logic Puzzle was a grid puzzle with clues to figure out what position each player was on a baseball team. We definitely have some baseball fans among us – Esther is on top of her game. To end the month there is one last puzzle to celebrate National Honesty Day… IT was believed that if we start the month out with great pranks we should correct our ways and Tell it Like it Is – the whole truth and nothing but… and there are many children’s stories that help to teach kids that it pays to tell the truth. We have 15 participants right now for the weekly contests and if you would like to join us with these brain games please see Phyllis in Activities. New puzzles are handed out on Wednesdays and you have until the following Tuesday to turn them in. Most puzzles will have something to do with a non-traditional holiday that should be worth celebrating. Congratulations to Esther, Ray and Ruth our top winners this month. Martin passed away towards the end of this last month. W.L. was a member of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers. He played with The Olde Sidekicks and previously he and Denny Secord made up the twosome Northwest Country Boys. I had the privilege of knowing and working with W.L. for the last 13 years. He always livened up the place with his vibrancy and his love of music. The precious smile he always shared with us and the enthusiasm, as he played which ever instrument his hands touched. This picture (right) is a reminder of his fun loving nature. W.L. loved to play music and he shared that love across this community. We will all miss W.L. so very much. I am sure that the music community is reeling from this loss, I know we are. There is a sympathy card for his wife, if you would like to sign it, it is located in the activity room. We will mail it next week. Sherwood Manor is a family owned business that has been serving the Olympic Peninsula since 1974. Passing the Reins of Leadership Assisted Living with a Difference! Rena is retiring. She started working for Bill 27 years ago when the Assisted Living portion of this building was much smaller. Not only is she the Administrator but she is also an RN. Over the years there has been a lot of growth and change. Rena has been there to support it all. How best should I describe Rena? She is one of the most caring and loving individuals that I know. She is fierce in her defense of her residents and her facility, of which she is the heart. I have always felt that the attitude of a place starts with the top and filters down, it is true. She has always demanded the very best for you and bent over backwards to see that you got it. She will be a hard act to follow. Rena Keith & Bob Hitchcock Yet, Rena and her husband Bill are looking forward to this time when they No picture available of AJ. If you wish can more fully enjoy their many grandkids, spend time at their cabin east of to meet her, her office is located next to the mountains and just explore the world. Both are very active in their Linda’s down near the front entrance. Church and excited about doing missionary work. Retiring was a hard decision for Rena to make, she has made this facility a home not only for the residents but for the staff as well, but having made the decision she started her search for a new Administrator. When she met Bob, then his wife AJ, she felt that she had found someone who would take good care of her legacy. Bob Hitchcock is our new Administrator. His official title will be General Manager as he is also overseeing The Fifth Avenue. Bob has over 35 years experience running retirement communities and is very excited about this career move to the Peninsula with his wife A.J. who will be our new Community Relations Director...yes it has taken two people to replace Rena…in addition to their new life here on the Peninsula with us, they will be closer to family who have lived on the Peninsula for 25 years, in Port Angeles. I have met both Bob and AJ they are kind and caring people, their humor and enthusiasm is contagious and we are all looking forward to getting to know them. We will all miss Rena so very much! But we wish her the best and happiest Retirement a person could ever have. (Who knows maybe I can convince her to volunteer!) At the same time we welcome Bob and AJ to the Sherwood family.
