Overview:
At the end of each social studies unit you will complete a culminating assignment that compiles all the important events,
dates, people, places, concepts/ideas, and vocabulary of the historical time period we just completed studying, and
present them visually in the form of a word cloud.
Steps:
1. Using your textbook and all the materials in your binder, create a list of what you feel are the most important
events, dates, people, places, concepts/ideas, and vocabulary of the time in history we just completed studying.
2. Go to one of the following websites (Mrs. Green will instruct you which site for each unit):
o http://www.wordle.net
 Click on “Create Your Own” to begin your word cloud.
 Type in your list of words.
 Click “Go”.
 Use the menus at the top of the word cloud to make changes to your word cloud.
 Click “Print”.
 **You can’t save Wordle word clouds on your computer. If you want to save it, it must
be saved to the Wordle.net website. So once you print it and quit the program, you
will not be able to access it again unless it has been saved on the Wordle site.**
o http://www.tagexdo.com
 Click on “Start Here” to begin your word cloud.
 Click on “Load” to begin typing in your words.
 Type in your list of words.
 Click “Submit”.
 Use the “Respin” and “Options” menus to make changes to your word cloud.
 Click “Save”.
 Save as a JPG image on your computer.
 Click “Print”.
Assessment:
 You will be assessed on the following:
o The most important events, dates, people, places, concepts/ideas, and vocabulary of the time in history
are represented in the word cloud.
o Presentation (Experiment with the options available on the site to make your word cloud look good!):
 Effective use of color.
 Appropriate shape choice (tagxdo.com only)—it is representative of the historical time period.
 The word cloud is readable.
 The word cloud is visually appealing.
o Conventions:
 Correct spelling.
 Correct word usage.
