Example: Write stories using descriptive words in place of common words; for instance, use enormous, gigantic, or giant for the word big. Pet Poetry Project Description Goal: Create two poems based on pets. You may use one of the four types of poetry listed in your notes. Use your four types of poetry notes to assist you. -You must use at least 1 example of the following items in at least 1 of your poems. -Symbolism -Imagery -Metaphor -Simile -Your poem should meet the requirements for whichever type you create. If you choose free verse, there are no rules. -You must follow the writing procedures. -Brainstorm, Rough Draft, You Edit, Revise, Peer Edit, Revise, Publish -Use a thesaurus to find better word choice when writing your poem Presentation: Your presentation may be completed in any manner you chose. If your presentation requires materials, you must bring them in to use during class. Do not forget you must present in front of your classmates. Follow the rubric for all projects. Below are some suggested ways to present. These poems meet the requirements of whichever type they chose. Free verse poetry has no rules. The student uses two types of poetry when writing their poems. They do not meet the requirements of whichever type they chose. The student used the same type of poetry for both poems. The student only finished one poem. The student did not write any poems. Metaphor, Simile, Imagery, Symbolism The student uses at least 1 example of each of the items in this category. The student has all four of the items but does not use them correctly. The student is missing 1 of the four items. The student is missing 2 of the four items. The student is missing 3 or more of the four items. Writing Process The student completed each of the steps of the writing process, and shows evidence through his or her checklist. The student appears to have complete the writing process but did not include the checklist, however there are other pieces of evidence or the teacher witnessed many of the steps. The student did not complete all of the steps for writing. But he or she did complete most of the steps. The student did not complete all of the steps of the writing process. However, they did complete less than half. The student did not complete any of the steps of the writing process. Word Choice The thesaurus was used to make at least 3 words the student originally chose stronger. The thesaurus was used to make 2 words stronger than the student originally chose. Rough Draft -Write out what will be under each letter. -Be sure it meets all the requirements of the rubric. You Edit -Edit your own work. -Check for spelling errors. -Check for punctuation and capitalization errors. -Show use of the thesaurus being used Revise -Fix issues you noticed in your writing.
