A European IT company specialized in scientific instrumentation We increase the lifetime of your IT to match its instrument! Facts & Risks Today, the average lifetime of a scientific instrument exceeds ten years, whilst its IT environment, necessary for its operation (computer, printer, software…), rarely exceeds 5 years. How do you continue to operate your instrument when the operating system (NT4, 2000, XP...) or the technology (ISA, Serial ports...) that you use is no longer commercially available? Advice and Solutions Be it hardware or software, your computer package can be maintained over time. Hardware: - Firstly, the manufacturers propose a warranty expandable up to 5 years for professional equipment. - Then, thanks to customized « industrial » solutions (integrating past technologies, e.g. Pentium 4 processors, ISA slots, serial ports, etc.) we can continue to drive your instrument. Software: - Long term via « Embedded » software licenses, (NT4, 2000, XP, along with their Services Packs, etc.) available from IT integrators with Microsoft Embedded Partnership. - Short term via « Downgrade rights», granted by publishers, allowing the installation of an older operating system when buying a newer operating system, - Using new technology via the virtualization of older operating systems using more recent ones. Thus, you can extend your instruments’ lifespan and ensure their operation. Some explanations (**) Full Packaged Product Licenses (FPP-Boxed) – Language fixed and unique These licenses are delivered with: the media on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, a EULA (End User License Agreement), a user manual and user support. You need one license per computer, thus these licenses are best suited to home users or companies with low volume needs. When replacing a computer with a FFP license, you can reuse the license on the new hardware. Preinstalled Licenses (OEM) - Language fixed and unique (***) When an individual buys a computer in a store or from a reseller, the computer is usually supplied with preinstalled software including an operating system. The licensing for these software are called « OEM licenses » and often have strict conditions tied to them (particularly Microsoft Licenses). When replacing a computer with a OEM license, it is forbidden to reinstall and use this license on the new hardware. « Embedded » OEM Licenses – Multi-language (***) Windows Embedded is a division of Microsoft available to integrators of IT solutions giving access to licenses for operating systems, past and present. This includes licenses no longer available to the "general public”, e.g. NT4, 2000, XP, and their service packs. This solution allows integrators to provide personalized media including the operating systems and the computer drivers. The media could also include your or 3rd party software. The Downgrade Rights This is the right to use an earlier version. This right is granted to the end user and is strictly defined by terms of the license or by the End User License Agreement (EULA). With these rights a user who purchases a computer with the latest available operating system can use an earlier version until he is ready to move to the new version. (*) Microsoft may change these elements without prior notification (**) To use software legally, it is essential to ensure that software comes from the editor, otherwise the person using it could be held responsible. The certificate of authenticity is the first visible element of authenticity when buying software. It must be present on each box containing the software or attached to each computer delivered with Microsoft software (***) If you change computer, it is illegal to reinstall and reuse these software licenses on new hardware LabService Southern Europe (Toulouse – France) [email protected] +33 562 893 030 LabService Northern Europe (Hamburg – Germany) [email protected] + 49 40 88 23 66 93 Sales Department : Virgile GEFFROY
