Healthy Holiday Socials @ Work The holidays bring an opportunity for us to socialize at work during a celebratory time of the year. Often times, these social gatherings involve sugary options and high-caloric dishes. Keep your socials healthy with these ideas! Champion Celebration Ideas: Music and Dance Party- Include movement into your party Salsa party with Latin dancing Have a dance party each week already? Maybe you can all learn a dance at your weekly dance party and then perform it together at your social Put on a Talent Show! Have people showcase their talents of playing music, singing, or dancing. Maybe there’s even a magician in your midst? Karaoke Time! Ask your IT to bring in a portable speaker and a microphone and then pull up you tube videos of karaoke songs Reminisce Together- Share photos and have a good laugh Show a slideshow of photos taken throughout the year Gratitude photos of staff members. Have everyone take a photo by answering the prompt: “I am grateful for: ____” on a white board. Share the photos at your social Games- Play a fun game to take the focus off of work White Elephant- Set a safe limit and make sure that everyone who plays gives a gift. Gift Exchange- Have everyone draw a name from a box. Whoever you draw a name for, you’ll be giving a gift to. But don’t tell them because it is a secret. Set rules about how much people should spend and encourage people to write three gift hints for their secret gift giver. Be Festive- Tie a theme to your office social Have a decoration contest. Who can decorate their office chair the best? Get people moving— Ask people to do a walk through in the office to judge who’s chair wins the prize (HSS can give prizes for this!) Have a gingerbread decorating party. Just don’t eat too many of the decorations Use an Ugly Sweater Party as your social theme. Have people share a story about their ugly sweater. Give Back Together- Find a campaign to work towards together. (This can be posted on a bulletin board or shared by email. This will require an administrator.) Select a theme. Themes can be 5 ingredients or less, crockpot, quick breakfasts, etc. Have everyone share their recipe by collecting via email then share with participants on a bulletin board. Gather recipes to share. Have everyone submit a recipe electronically and compile into a food cookbook to share. Healthy Gatherings with Food Potlucks Daily Treats Taste Testing / Cook Off Have everyone bring a dish to share and also have them share the recipe. Assign a day to people and have them bring an item to share along with the recipe. Everyone can make a similarly themed item and have all participants taste the dishes and vote for who did it best! Add a Fun Spin to Your Socials: “Rad Recipes at Random” game. Gather holiday recipes from participants, put them in a bag, then have everyone pull from the bag. You may end up with your own recipe or you may end up with someone else’s. Make the recipe and share. “Chopped” theme. Gather a group of Managers and employees to be judges. Choose an ingredient that everyone needs to include in their dish and get as many participants as possible to create dishes that include that ingredient. Try to choose a common ingredient found in holiday dishes! Add a game to your gathering. Play the Healthy and Happy Holiday Trivia game if you have AV where the social is taking place. You’re sure to get some laughs out of the experience. Give out party favors that promote cooking and healthy eating (ie. Measuring spoons, apple cutters, cutting boards).
