The River Thames flows through London. In the City of London you can find the Bank of England and the Royal Stock Exchange. There are three more very famous buildings in the city: The Old Bailey, St. Paul’s Cathedral and The Tower of London. The Tower of London was built more than 900 years ago as a fortress, today it is guarded by the “beefeaters” and you can find the Crown Jewels here . The Houses of Parliament stand on the bank of the Thames, and have two towers: the Elizabeth Tower (previously: the Clock Tower) and the Victoria Tower. Big Ben, which is the biggest bell of the tower, can be found in the Elizabeth Tower. Westminster Abbey stands opposite the Houses of Parliament. Westminster Abbey was the scene of every coronation and many famous people are buried here. Not far from the Abbey you can find Buckingham Palace, which is the official residence of the Queen. You can find a lot of interesting museums in London for example the British Museum, the National Gallery, and the Museum of Science. In the West End you can find Trafalgar Square – one of the best known squares of London, in the middle of which Nelson’s Coloumn stands. Piccadilly Circus is the centre of night life, and to the north of it there is Soho, which is famous for its foreign restaurants. There are a lot of parks in London where you can rest, for example Hyde Park and Regent’s Park.
