Glenview School 66 Bruce Ave Phone 843 5598 Fax 843 5578 Website: www.glenview.school.nz Term 1 Week 8 Wednesday 21 March Welcome parents / caregivers to Week 8 at Glenview this year! This week is a relatively quiet week as school events go. Last week the school swimming sports were held. It was great to see so many students take part and parents / grandparents down at the pools supporting their children. Thank you to the parents who transported children down to the pools and back. Hopefully the council will continue to keep the pool open so we can continue to hold our sports there. Unfortunately the interschool swimming sports were cancelled due to the wet weather on Monday. Congratulations to the following children who were chosen to represent the school. Yr 6; Kypher Mc Morran, Henry Yao, Casey Sharplin, Luke Wetere, Bridget Easto, McKenzie Pennell, Petra Simmonds, Sarah Druett, Summer Fletcher. Year 5; Holly Isaac, Rachel Harrison, Gabrielle Simmonds, Jhonelle Tui, Leonie Rose Whaanga, Carlos Thompson, Simien Bartlett, Raihania Isaacs, Brady Marsh, Lylies King. Yr 4 Bipin Judge, Julius Perawiti, Viliami Leavea, Regan Hosking, Nathan Stewart, Daniel Nobilo, Rachel Easto, Isabella Hills, Eden Peters, Leah Smith, Emma Goodson and Zoe Neill. On Sunday we have a group of children representing us at the ‘Top Schools’ sports day being held at Te Kowhai school on Sunday. We wish them all the best. Board of Trustees At last weeks board meeting the school policies coming up for review were presented and a framework for review was discussed This year we will be asking for input from interested groups on the following policies. Reporting to Parents, Maori Achievement and Promotion of Te Reo and Tikanga Maori. We will ask for feedback from interested groups over the next few months. This may be through the newsletter, school questionnaire or interview. Like wise we are also reviewing the delivery of Health and Physical Education in the school, again a parent perspective will be sought. Our architects have informed us the refurbishment of Rooms 7, 8 and 9 have gone out to tender. This work will be carried out next term. As part of this refurbishment a new toilet block will be constructed at the end of room 12. The removal of the Dental Clinic has also been submitted to tender. It is with some regret that we announce the retirement of Kay Sullivan our school office administrator. Kay has worked in our school for the last 33 years. She has worked tirelessly for the school over this time. To acknowledge Kay’s farewell we will hold a community event early next term. We have made an appointment to this position, whom will be starting next term.
