When do they occur?
TIDES
How often do they occur?
What causes them?
CAUSE:
GRAVITY!
Mostly
from the
Moon.
Remember that the
Earth is spinning on
its axis once every
twenty-four hours.
So what does this do
to the timing of the
tides throughout the
day?
How much time is
there between a high
tide and a low tide?
Or high tide and the
next high tide?
What about the SUN?
Doesn't it have even
MORE gravity than
the moon?
Doesn't it pull at the oceans too????
ANSWER:
YES!

The Bay of Fundy
The biggest tides in the world!
Up to 50 feet!

Where rivers flow into the Bay of Fundy, the strong tide can actually
"collide" with the river's flow and create what is called a TIDAL BORE.
