Stoner Prairie Student recognition at Board of Education Meeting on Monday, May 16, 2016 Madison Baccam: Madison is a positive, responsible & respectful classroom role model. I can count on her to do her best no matter her partner, assignment or work setting. Madison is proud of her Native American heritage. She regularly participates in powwows with her family and shares the experiences with us during class meetings. I have been lucky to work with her these past two years! Ms. Johnson 2/3 teacher Allison Hass: Allison has been a hardworking student all year. She has always put forth great effort, showed an interest in all subject areas, and has persevered when concepts have proven to be tricky. As early spring approached, this young lady began to take risk after risk as a learner. She has found her voice and is sharing in front of large groups as well as advocating for herself and others. She is a role model and leader to her peers, and has become so much more self-confident. I have truly enjoyed Allison's transformation throughout the course of this school year! Ms. Peterson 4th grade teacher Adan Martinez-Peterson: He is a great leader in our classroom. He models responsibility, kindness, & respect toward himself, others, & his environment no matter where or with whom he is. He always tries his best and welcomes help when needed as well as a challenge when provided to him. He is a wonderful member of our class! Ms. Magnus 2/3 Teacher Maya Figuero: Maya is a quiet leader. Maya is kind hearted and leads peers with her excellent choices. She is willing to put in the time it takes to complete tasks well, and remains focused the entire time. Maya makes excellent connections between what we're learning and the outside world. When she feels the need to address conflicts, Maya is calm and fair. Maya seems to have a love for all things: teachers, students, learning, and especially her family and pet dog, Chewy. That love and positive attitude are wonderful to have in the classroom. Ms. Durnen 2/3 Teacher Eve Coan and Julia Sanders: Eve and Julia discovered they have a passion for writing and began working on a joint novel. While sharing the first two chapters of this project with Ms. Wick, they came up with the idea to start the Rainy Day Writer's Club. This opportunity is open to students in fourth and fifth grades, and Julia and Eve went to each classroom to explain the opportunity to other students. They meet each day that it is brown or red flag for recess, since they would be in for recess anyway. They now have 17 students who have indicated interest and they have had several meetings under the guidance of Paula Wick. Way to go Eve and Julia for discovering ways to pursue and share your passion! Ms. Cook 4/5 PALs teacher Stoner Prairie Student recognition at Board of Education Meeting on Monday, May 16, 2016 Alejandro Gonzalez Alex is someone who came to me not very excited or interested in school. While I would say school still might not be his favorite thing, but he has found ways to pursue his passions through math, design lab and technology. What really stands out about Alex though is his willingness to step in and help whenever he sees a need. If something falls, Alex is the first one to go pick it up, even without being asked. If he notices someone needs help learning something, he jumps right in to offer a suggestion. He has stayed in at recess to help someone work on a particular skill. He really adds a positive influence to the classroom environment! Ms. Cook 4/5 PALs teacher Yanari Warren: Yanari is passionate about learning and standing up for what she believes in, both in and outside of the classroom. She articulates her thoughts and opinions in a way that shows her thinking in a mature and meaningful way. In class, I can always tell when she is thinking hard and has something important to say during class discussions. I appreciate Yanari’s ability to look at situations through different perspectives and her eagerness to want to know and learn more every day. Yanari has a strong and powerful voice that I believe will help her achieve great things some day! Ms. Heiser 5th grade teacher Rafaelia Gandolfo-Bustamante: Our school focuses on student's greatness and Rafaela embodies this philosophy. She is polite, honest, respectful, cooperative, helpful, generous, and so many more greatnesses that it's impossible to list them all. She is a leader in our school by being an ambassador. She has gotten up in front of the entire school and spoken with the ambassadors at our assemblies. She reads the announcements in the morning with fluency and grace. She volunteered to be a part of our school choir and has a beautiful voice. She even performed in our school talent show! She leads in the classroom by example - she turns her work in each day and is prepared to learn. She participates with enthusiasm. But the quality that I see in Rafaela that stands out most is her willingness to help her classmates. She partners with a student in our class for an entire week and works as that student's scribe -which includes writing for the student and helping them with anything they need. It's a big task, but she does this with eagerness and joy in her heart. I know that Rafaela will go on to become an outstanding citizen in our community and do wonderful things in her life with all the greatness she possesses. Mrs. Jones 4th grade teacher Rachel Hall: Rachel is a quiet, yet strong, leader in her classroom. She always shows enthusiasm in the face of academic challenges. She works well with all of her peers and displays a strong work ethic by accomplishing all tasks, projects and assignments. Her nature is positive and cheerful and she is the first to volunteer to lend a helping hand! Ms. Prathivadi 5th grade teacher
