SUB-THEMES ARE: • THEME OF THE SEMINAR National Seminar on ""NZe¡VÉ pw−Ol f¤−l¡d¡ e¡VÉL¡l ¢hSe i–¡Q¡kÑ - nah−oÑl cfÑ−Z'' 13th February 2016 ORGANIZED BY Department of Bengali Bir Bikram Memorial College College Tilla , Agartala, Tripura (West), Tripura www.bbmc.nic.in ORGANIZING COMMITTEE Chairperson Dr. Dipannita Chakraborty Principal Bir Bikram Memorial College Agartala, Tripura Organizing Secretary Jiban Krishna Patra Assistant Professor Department of Bengali Bir Bikram Memorial College Agartala, Tripura Mobile:09436517220 Email: [email protected] Bijan Bhattacharya (1915-1978) was born during the transitional period of the 1st world war and his literary talent and recognition as a dramatist got its fulfillment during the 2nd world war and its aftermath. He became famous in the field of literature in Bengal as a great dramatist, producer, actor and stage director. During his student life he was a follower of Gandhian Philosophy and became an active member of Indian Students` Federation and was influenced by Marxism. Later when Indian People`s Theatre Association (IPTA-25th May, 1943) was established, he became an active member and dramatist in the anti Fascist movement known as ‘Janajuddha’ .During those days our country was suffering from the ill effects of war, famine, black marketing, flood etc. A staunch believer in the Marxist mass movement he developed the cultural activities of the Indian People’s Theatre Association with the aim to get freedom from the black shadow of imperialist power, and expressed his historic revolutionary artistic quality. The main message of IPTA was “The new should address the issues of hunger and the poverty without any social political dependence with utmost sincerity”. IPTA first staged ‘Aagun’ (1943) written by Bijan Bhattacharya, but his more successful creation of the drama th ‘Nabanno’ was staged (24 October, 1944) in ‘Srirangam Theatre’. Consequently, this drama created a land mark in encouraging new line of movement and revolutionary activities by avoiding the traditional line of thinking. However he left IPTA due to difference of principles in 1948 and founded ‘Natyachakra’ in collaboration with Digindranath Bandyopadhyay and still later he established ‘Calcutta Theatre’ and ‘Kabach Kundal’ Theatre.
