City Information
GETTING HERE
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
has held the title of world’s busiest airport
since 2000, and for good reason. Not only is it
among world airport leaders in just about
every statistical category measured, but it is
also within a two-hour flight for 80 percent of
the U.S. population. It isn’t just the service that
sets Atlanta’s airport apart, it’s also the
amenities. Dining and shopping are but two of
the ways you can best utilize your time during
a layover, and the airport is a short 10-minute
trip into downtown Atlanta for those with a
longer stay. As one of a few U.S. airports with
direct rail access from the airport, getting to
downtown Atlanta and other areas on MARTA
is a breeze.
WEATHER
GETTING AROUND
So getting to Atlanta was a snap. What now?
Time to explore our neighborhoods and
have some fun. There are many ways to
navigate Atlanta, including: MARTA public
transit, taxis, Atlanta Streetcar, car services
and the good old-fashioned method of
driving. If you’d like to see the city by foot or
bike, the Beltline can guide you. No matter
how you choose to see the sights, there’s a
quick and easy way to find the right
Peachtree Street. We do have a few of
those, after all.
Despite having a mild climate, Atlanta does
experience all four seasons. The average
annual temperature is 61 degrees. July is the
hottest month, averaging 89 degrees and
January is the coldest, with the average low at
33 degrees. With less than two inches of
annual snowfall, it's not easy to ski or sled, but
you can enjoy more than 100 golf courses, 200
public tennis courts and hundreds of miles of
hiking and biking trails more than 300 days a
year. The moderate Atlanta climate also allows
us to take advantage of many outdoor festivals,
concert venues and parks nearly year-round.

Downtown Atlanta Attractions
Much has been accomplished in the last 25 years to elevate Atlanta to world-class status. An
efficient public transportation system, MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority),
was put in place; Underground Atlanta was added to the entertainment map; the Georgia
World Congress Center made the city a convention hub; the Georgia Dome was built in 1992
– and will soon be replaced with an even more state-of-the-art facility; and Philips Arena was
built in 1999.
From July 20 through August 4, 1996, the eyes of the world were on Atlanta as the city hosted
the Centennial Olympic Games. The city successfully hosted the biggest Olympic games ever,
showcasing itself to 2 million people in person and through global broadcast to 3.5 billion
people - more than two-thirds of the world's population - thus sharing Atlanta's vision and
America's spirit
The Olympics served as a catalyst for a second resurgence of Atlanta as it dramatically
transforms from great American city to greater international city by launching more than $2
billion in new construction projects and other changes.
Recently, we have seen an exciting boom in attractions that have made Downtown Atlanta
even more exciting to visit, including the College Football Hall of Fame and the Center for Civil
and Human Rights.
The following is a brief summary of the wonderful attractions located in the downtown
Atlanta area. These attractions are all within 6-8 blocks of the major hotels.
