Simco direct reading liquid level gauges for clear observation of liquid levels
Simco liquid level gauges and valves are used in applications where clear visual observation of a
liquid level is required.
Simco level gauges available in reflex and transparent design for a wide range of pressures and
temperatures with combinations, connections and options to meet most specifications.
Reflex gauges give an accurate reading of liquid levels, even colourless liquids can be seen by
virtue of the reflex principle. The reflex gauges work, in the following way. Light striking the area of
glass covered by the liquid is allowed to pass to the interior of the gauge —so the area appears
black. Light striking the open space above is reflected back silver. The distinct line that separates
the black and silver areas clearly shows the actual liquid level in the system.
Transparent gauges are used to observe both the level of a liquid and its characteristics. Clear
glass is mounted on the front and back of the gauge. This permits the observer to see such
characteristics as colour or the interface between two unmixable liquids in the same system.
Magnetic Level Indicators for use on dangerous or toxic fluids, gases or flammable liquids where
flat glass leve l gauges are not permitted. All indicators are available with complete range of

Level Gauge Selector
Each gauge model is available in different glass lengths or sizes. The maximum pressure the gauge can withstand is
determined by several factors including glass size. As the size increases the maximum pressure permissible decreases.
The pressure rating for each gauge model is given in the tables listed below. The smallest glass size available in that model
corresponds to the highest pressure—the largest glass size corresponds to the lowest pressure.

Reflex Gauges
Simco reflex gauges use special prism glass to provide an accurate indication of liquid levels. The reflex gauge uses the
principles of light refraction and reflection to give a clear indication visible without close inspection.
Transparent Gauges
Simco transparent gauges use clear glass and are used when it is desired to observe the colour or density of the liquid
or the interface of two liquids Gauge illuminators can be fitted to provide easy viewing in dimly lit areas.
Materials
Liquid Chamber Is machined from solid bar or heavy wall tubing. Accurately machined to provide strength and
resistance to leakage.
Cover Encloses glass to reduce stress and resist glass breakage.
Nuts & Bolts Alloy steel bolts are evenly spaced to facilitate easy inspection of any desired section and give uniform
gasket pressure.
Glass For strength and resistance to erosion and thermal shock, toughened borosilicate is standard.
Gaskets Die cut from highest quality materials to suit the medium.
Mica or Hostoflon Shields Are recommended for transparent gauges when handling caustics, hydrofluric acids or other
media corrosive to glass.
Special Materials Level gauges also available in type AISI 316 stainless steel, LT5O or monel. Other materials can be
supplied to special order.
Accessories A full line of accessories are offered with Simco Level gauges
Frost Proof Extensions Prevent frost build up over the gauge visible glass.
Illuminators For transparent gauges provide light diffusion over entire visible length.
Internal or External Heating To prevent certain liquids from solidifying.
