Efficient use of organic waste
Energy without CO2 emissions
We construct plants that produce electricity
from organic waste
Electricity generation from biomass
can use a steam cycle. The biomass
is combusted in a boiler to obtain
high pressure steam, which
subsequently passes through a
steam turbine to convert it into
electricity.
The main piece of equipment in a
biomass plant is the boiler, which
must be adapted to the process and
the type of biomass used. There are
different types of steam boilers:
Biomass is organic material that
comes from biological processes,
spontaneous or provoked. Its use as
a fuel offers major environmental
benefits since it eliminates
additional carbon dioxide emissions
to the atmosphere in a controlled
and clean way. Biomass in
agricultural or forestry areas can
represent huge volumes of waste
material. Furthermore, eliminating
these wastes creates wealth in the
rural environment, while also
helping to reduce energy
dependency on fossil fuels. The
electricity generated from biomass
can be sold as “green energy” since
it is free of net carbon dioxide
emissions (CO2) and therefore does
not contribute to the greenhouse
effect.

based on sustainability and
efficiency and offer major
environmental, economic, and
social advantages. Abengoa has had
successful experience with this
technology and is capable of
constructing these plants anywhere
in the world.
grate (fixed, mobile, vibrating),
fluidized bed and pulverized. Each
boiler type offers different levels of
energy efficiency, different types of
biomass, investment costs,
maintenance, etc. Choosing the
most appropriate boiler requires an
optimization study of all these
parameters.
There are very diverse sources of
biomass. Some of the most common
include natural biomass (no human
intervention), residual biomass
(from agricultural waste, livestock
or even urban waste) and energy
crops (grown for the purpose of
producing biomass).
Abengoa specializes in complex turn-key projects. It has an integrated business model that constitutes a crucial
competitive advantage guaranteeing customer satisfaction and the fulfillment of time schedules, budgets and
performance.
