Master Thesis - Measuring Product Quality in IoT Systems Organization: Robert Bosch AB | Region: Sweden | Location: Lund | Functional Area: Engineering, Software Development Do you want beneficial technologies being shaped by your ideas? Whether in the areas of mobility solutions, consumer goods, industrial technology or energy and building technology – with us, you will have the chance to improve quality of life all across the globe. Welcome to Bosch. The Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of Bosch. On the basis of the Bosch Group’s competencies in electronics, sensors and software, we develop, manufacture and market innovative interconnected devices as well as customized solutions for the Internet of Things. Our main businesses are in the areas of Smart Home & Building, Connected Mobility and Industry 4.0! We improve everyday life, increase comfort, security and productivity. Your contribution to something big As the number of deployed IoT devices increase, so does the need to answer the question “what is our product quality”. Overall product quality begins with the design of the device and continues into the measurement of the yield at the factory producing our devices. In this master’s thesis you will examine the next step of product quality, that of an installed base of IoT nodes. Why do we want to measure “product quality” for our deployed IoT systems and how do we define it? Our first reason is that poor product quality will hurt the user experience, the second being that this will hurt our business case. Incidentally, we may have poor product quality but still a great user experience. A software bug causing a device restart may not be visible to the end user, thus saving the user experience. This leads us into defining product quality. One such measurement is “how many system restarts have we suffered within a population of nodes running one particular version of our firmware”. Another definition can be “the number of replaced nodes within the same population”. As our product evolves, we will have multiple hardware revisions and multiple firmware versions released to our customers and at this point it gets interesting to compare different combinations of hardware/software, enabling us to answer the question “did our last effort really increase the product quality”. In this Master Thesis, you will Look at the kind of measurements needed. Make changes to an existing firmware for a provided IoT system to report these measurements. Make changes to the server infrastructure for receiving and storing the data. Design and implement a system for querying and displaying the measured data. The Master‘s Thesis will be conducted at the Bosch Lund site and is suitable for two persons. Make it happen. Apply now by sending your application via e-mail to [email protected].
