Returning Junior Guard from the Summer 2014 program. 2. Newcomer who has passed the required swim test. Orientation: When? The first Monday of each 3-week session. Morning session orientation starts at 9:00am. Afternoon session orientation starts at 1:00pm. Session 2: July 13–July 30 Where? The entrance to Heisler Park, south of the Lawn Morning #32641 MTuW 9:00–12:00 noon Bowling Club; off Cliff Drive between Jasmine and Th 9:00–4:00pm Myrtle. Afternoon #32642MTuW 1:00–4:00pm Th 9:00–4:00pm What? A completed 2015 Junior Guard Authorization Morning & afternoon sessions are combined on Thursdays. JUNIOR GUARD SWIM TEST INFO All newcomers must pass a required swim test on one of the following dates. Alternate dates are not offered. Prospective newcomers who miss swim test dates will not be able to enroll. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Swim test dates: Fri 6:00–7:30pm Sat 1:00–3:00pm 2/27, 3/13, 3/27, 4/24, 5/8, 5/29, 6/12, 6/26, 7/10 3/14, 3/28, 4/25, 5/9, 5/30, 6/13, 6/27, 7/11 Location: Laguna Beach High School & Community Pool, 670 Park Ave, Laguna Beach. No appointment necessary. Swim Test Requirements: Youngers (ages 8–11): Ability to swim 100-yards (4 pool lengths) in 2 minutes, 20 seconds. Olders (ages 12–15): Ability to swim 100-yards (4 pool lengths) in 1 minute, 50 seconds. PICNICS, FIELD TRIPS, COMPETITION Picnics: Last Thursday of each session. Field Trip: Flyers with detailed information will be given out prior to field trips or check www.lagunabeachcity.net/cityhall/marine Youngers (8–11): TBA Olders (12–15): Catalina Competitions: Small competitions will be held throughout the sessions; Ironchild competition is held on the last day of each session. LAGUNA BEACH COMMUNITY SERVICES | SPRING 2015 Card must be turned in which will be mailed out prior to orientation. Uniforms will be distributed and the JG group photo will be taken at Main Beach depending on time & weather. Make every effort to attend the first day. Parents or guardians must attend. The entrance to Heisler Park—just south of the lawn bowling club—will be the regular drop-off and pick-up point, except on field trip days. REGISTRATION Open on a space-available basis. Fees include shorts, T-shirt, rash guard, sweatshirt, towel, group photo, USLA membership, picnic and field trip. Sessions 1 & 2: LB residents* early bird fee from Mar 2–Apr 3 at 5pm Resident & non-resident registration fee after Apr 3 at 5pm $265 $290 *A resident is defined as those who live within the boundaries of the Laguna Beach Unified School District or attend school in Laguna Beach. UNIFORM & GEAR Junior Guards must report in uniform each day and bring the following: - Swimming fins (duck feet preferred) - Hat - Backpack that holds all gear - Sunscreen - Lunch on most Thursdays - Sandals - Water- Towel - No jewelry allowed, except a watch - Girls wear a navy blue one-piece swimsuit Please mark all personal belongings with permanent ink. 7 JUNIOR LIFEGUARDS OR Junior Guards are separated by ability and age. Junior Lifeguards who are returning from the Summer 2014 program are eligible to register while newcomers must pass a required swim test. See more info on the swim test below. The program offers education in ocean safety, rescue techniques, beach activities, physical fitness and marine safety operations in an environment that emphasizes courtesy, respect, and good sportsmanship.
