Tzedakah
Each month, we designate a different charity or
organization for our Shabbat Tzedakah
collection. We encourage parents to tell us
about organizations that are close to your
hearts. Tzedakah is collected in the classrooms
on Fridays during Shabbat, but feel free to bring coins in earlier
in the week if it is more convenient. Donations will be held until
Fridays so the children will contribute as a group. In our
newsletters, we will include as many specifics about each
organization as possible so that you will understand the
importance of the charity.
For the month of November, we will be donating Tzedakah to the
Regional Food Bank of North Eastern New York. The Regional Food
Bank has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities
since 1982. It is the only organization of its kind in northeastern New
York. The Food Bank collects large donations of food from the food
industry and distributes it to charitable agencies serving hungry and
disadvantaged people in 23 counties. From Plattsburgh to Newburgh,
in urban, rural, and suburban communities, the Food Bank provides
over 30 million pounds of food a year to 1,000 agencies.
The mission of the Regional Food Bank is to alleviate hunger and
prevent food waste. We work toward this mission by ensuring that all
products available for donation reach the Food Bank and are
distributed judiciously to our member agencies; by practicing
responsible stewardship; and by actively participating in the
community to increase awareness of hunger and poverty.

Andrea’s Article
Our shopping trip to the Niskayuna Co-op is one of my
favorite days of the school year, and this year was no
exception. We had many parent and grandparent
volunteers, and they all knew how to get car seats into
their cars! (I don’t know how all you parents do it-it has
been a long time since my children were little!). All the
children were eagerly anticipating our shopping trip.
When we got there all the children began hunting for
the food items on the grocery lists we had. All the children were very enthusiastic about putting all the food
items into the shopping cart. We really took over all
the isles at the Co-op! The people at the Co-op were
also delighted to have us there and gave the children
stickers to say thank you.
When the food got back to the JCC, the 3 year olds got
down to the business of sorting. Some of them liked to
sort by size or shape, others liked to sort by kind of
food. Parents, because of your generosity, we
purchased about $470 worth of groceries! I called
Concerned for the Hungry to let them know, and they
were so thrilled and thankful for our donation. I
couldn’t feel more lucky and thankful to have such kind
and giving families in our program!
After our outing to the Coop, I asked some of the four
year olds what their favorite part of the shopping trip
was. Here is a sampling of their replies:
Anvita Sista- “I liked going with my Dad”
Sonya Manz- “I liked buying the cake”
Avika Madan- “I liked the pink cake mix”
Max Rochette- “My favorite part was picking the stuff
off of the shelves”
Sloane Cahill- “I liked going in Alexander’s truck”
Sammy Eager- “I liked riding with Alexander”
Lyra Bourdon- “I liked riding to the store with
my friend”
Gigi Hover- “My favorite part was going with
my Daddy”
Amelia Reed- “I liked working together with
Jeremy”
Jeremy Zhang- “I liked everything about it”
A very big thank you to the huge amount of parents who
brought in baked good for our bake sale! You made our
fundraiser a big success for the PTO.
A special thank you to Andie Trahan, Veronica Reed, Rose Hitt
and Larina Riley for taking time out of their day to sell the
items at the bake sale. We greatly appreciate your help!
Also, thank you to the numerous parents who donated money
for our Co-op Field Trip. Because of your generosity, we were
able to purchase food for Concerned for the Hungry and
provide your children with a truly meaningful Mitzvah
experience! Lastly, thank you to the parents who were able to
help our little ones shop at the store. This truly would not be
possible without your assistance!
Waddlers
Lindsey & Jackie
Hello again from the Waddler room! As you
can imagine there is so much happening
with all of our friends! We have been
keeping busy painting, singing, climbing,
and building just to name a few. It’s so
exciting to watch all of our friends learn
and grow everyday.
Nava loves to say all of our friends names
and look at their pictures on the wall. She
also still loves singing and knows almost all
the words to “The Wheels on the Bus”.
Anika and Mackiver are officially walking
now! They are so proud of themselves and
so are we!
Kai loves to play with all of the balls, he’s
got quite the arm. Baum just came back
from France and we missed his humor, he
has such a personality. David loves dancing
to the music or any song we sing in class.
He definitely isn’t afraid to show us his
moves.
Makenzy loves to run around a chase after
the balls after popping them out of the
alligator. She also loves singing with Mrs.
Danka in the morning. Mikey is into
everything, but I do believe his favorite
thing to do is to dump out all of the toy
bins. Evelyn is always happy she loves to
play the musical instruments.
We are trying our best to get use to the
new application, if you are having any
problems please let us know. As always,
please remember to check your child’s
mailboxes on top of the cubbies. If anyone
has any questions or concerns please talk
to Jackie or myself.
Blue Room
Jill & Amy
We have had so many exciting activities these last few
weeks in the Blue Room. We have spent the last couple
weeks learning about Shabbat and putting together our
Shabbat boxes, which will be coming home this week.
Your children got the chance to make their own kiddush
cups, challah covers, kippahs, and candlestick holders. Last
Thursday, we had our annual field trip to the Niskayuna Co
-op and we were able to purchase food to donate to the
hungry this thanksgiving. Some of our students even made
the news!
Thanks so much to all of our wonderful parent volunteers
who helped make the trip possible as well as to everyone
who donated. This Thursday at 11, we will be having our
annual thanksgiving lunch and you are welcome to come
and listen to the story of thanksgiving and enjoy a wonderful meal together.
