WHAT'S NEW and UPCOMING?
- NEW! This week's Healthy Nibble: Shyness in a child is often
misunderstood. If you have a Shy Child, then this article should give you
some good information on how you can help him/her overcome shyness.
- NEW! Auditions - Fairy Tale Courtroom, Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday,

- Regional Center for Independent Living Leadership Academy,

abilities due to aging or injury, or work closely with the disability
community - You are invited! The RCIL Leadership Academy is a
groundbreaking 5 part series of training sessions for members of the
Disability Rights community to learn the leadership skills needed for

- RSD Parent-Staff Association monthly meeting, Monday,
February 6, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Westervelt Hall Learning
Resource Center (LRC). The presentation topic will be about the Junior
National Association of the Deaf Chapter at RSD. Chapter co-advisors
Joselina Keister and Gene DiVincenzo and chapter student members will

- ASL Comedy Show with Facebook Stars, March 2-4, Robert F.
Panara Theater at RIT/NTID, LBJ Hall. Go Deaf People United on

- Deaf Rochester Film Festival, March 22 - 25, 2017. Entry forms and
film submission guidelines are now available on the DRFF Web site. All
film submissions are due in by January 30th. Jr. Deaf Rochester Film

- Got Skills? Middle School Leadership and Sports Camp, June 24 July 2, 2017, at Gallaudet University. Open to Deaf and hard of hearing
students who are entering 6th-8th grades in the fall of 2017. Only 45
spaces are available and this camp is anticipated to be full by the end of
December so register your child/children today.
- R.O.C. - Rochester Open Captions on Facebook is fast becoming the
leading source for individuals in the Rochester area who prefer having
major motion pictures in commercial movie theaters shown with English
subtitles on-screen, rather than through special caption glasses. Become a
member of this group on Facebook to vote on which movies to show with
open captions and to receive the current schedule of open caption movies.
- To honor the life and volunteer service to RSD of the late Gilman Perkins,
great-grandson of RSD's founders, Gilman and Caroline Perkins, Gil's
children have established The Gilman Perkins Fund for RSD Student
Needs. This fund is intended to help RSD students overcome financial
obstacles that may impede them from achieving academic, social or career

how you and others can contribute to it towards the success of all RSD

- The American Society of Deaf Children (ASDC) is constantly seeking
diverse families with Deaf and hard of hearing children and young adults
who are empowered to embrace full access to language-rich ASL and
English environments. Individual and family memberships to ASDC are free
and include: The Endeavor news magazine, information about conferences
for families, free Described and Captioned Media Program membership,
web site and social media channels with links and resources, monthly email blast for members, and more. RSD families who are not yet members
of the ASDC can click here for a free, membership. RSD member families
of ASDC can also use this form to extend your free membership yearly.

- RIT/NTID Outreach Programs for Deaf and hard of hearing youth.
Programs include: Explore Your Future (EYF); techgirlz and techboys;
Health Care Careers Exploration Camp; Math Competition; SpiRIT Writing
Contest; Droids and Drones Camp; and, Digital Arts, Film & Animation
