Hi Bryson Bears,
I hope t hat you are all ready for an ex cit ing year. O ur school slogan/
t heme t his year, “ Here We Grow" capt ures what we do every day at
Bryson Element ary; we ' grow' young minds bot h int ellect ually
and emot ionally.
I oft en hear many say, “ You can be anyt hing you want t o be if you
work hard enough.” Sorry, but I do not believe t hat t o be a t rue
st at ement . For ex ample, as a child, if I had want ed t o be a cent er in t he
N BA - no mat t er how hard I work ed, I was never going t o be 7 feet t all wit h
t he
sk ill set necessary t o be t he nex t Bill Russell, t he Hall of Fame cent er
of t he Bost on Celt ics. M y vision would have eliminat ed any considerat ion for
t he ast ronaut / space program. Though I was always a pret t y st rong mat h
st udent , I was not st rong enough t o be a nuclear physicist . What I did discover
while I was a st udent was t hat I had gift s in music, writ ing,
organizing, humor, communicat ing – well, according t o
my fourt h grade t eacher - t alk ing a lot , mult iple sport s and doing many different
t hings well. M y gift s and abilit ies led me int o educat ion as a career
and even t oday I use my creat ive sk ills t o wri t e songs and perf orm
music.
A s a 5 t o 1 0 year old, it is oft en difficult t o k now wit h cert aint y what
a child want s t o be “ when t hey grow up.” What we do k now is t hat
every child is lik e a budding plant wait ing t o unfold or a sealed
envelope being opened t o discover t he cont ent s. Will t hey be st rong
in mat h, an ex cellent writ er, have a k een int erest in science, have
musical or art ist ic gif t s, be a fut ure O lympian? O ur challenge as
educat ors and parent s is t o nurt ure, encourage, guide, and challenge
each young learner t o help t hem develop “ what is inside of t heir
envelope” or t o blossom int o t he unique person t hey are gift ed and
sk illed t o be.
Each year is unique and always ex cit ing as we wat ch our children
grow. We look forward t o t his being anot her wonderful school year
and hope t hat you will join us in work ing t oget her for your child
during t his import ant st age of t heir life.
